City of Henderson Animal Protection Services

Animal Protection Services consists of Animal Protection Officers, Shelter staff, and a Veterinary team. For further information contact us at 702-267-4970.

The team helps reunite lost pets with their owners, cares for the animals brought to the shelter, and handles pet adoptions. The animals at the shelter receive medical care, vaccines, microchips and all adoptable dogs, cats, and rabbits are spayed or neutered. Animal Protection officers take part in public safety, resolving animal and pet issues that are part of residents' quality of life. The off

icers carry out the regulations outlined in the municipal code's Title 7, which include concerns about animal noise and animal sanitation, animals roaming at large, and Dangerous dog regulations. Animal Protection Services also performs welfare, cruelty and neglect investigations, animal bite processing, and rabies quarantines. An ordinance was passed by City Council on August 3, 2010 for the City of Henderson requiring that dogs and cats over the age of four months be spayed or neutered, except under specified circumstances. Animal Protection Services exists to serve the community, aid, comfort, and provide medical attention to the animals that come under the Shelter's care and to vigorously enforce the laws that protect animals and the community.

Fe-line like a friend? 🐈 We have cats & kittens at PetSmart 286 W Lake Mead Pkwy, which is open through the holiday weekend! Adoptions are 10am-4:30pm; cats over 6 months old are only $45 through Monday.

🌟 FEATURED PET 🌟 REESE ️🍫🩵🐶

Male • American Pit Bull Terrier • 1 Years Old • 67 pounds

Reese is a 1-year-old Pit Bull who is ready for a fresh start. When he first arrived, Reese was very under-socialized and scared of new people, but thanks to our staff and volunteers, he has made tremendous progress!

Reese is now happy to get out for walks and, once he feels safe, shows his sweet, affectionate, and energetic personality. He loves attention and pets, allows handling, and is curious and excited about meeting other dogs, both big and small. A meet-and-greet is recommended with any potential canine sibling.

Reese is still learning and will need a family committed to continued training and socialization, including building confidence with new people and handling, leash manners, and basic obedience. He can be a strong puller on leash but is eager to learn and please.

Underneath his initial uncertainty is a loving pup who has come so far and is ready for a family willing to give him the patience, guidance, and love he deserves. 💛🐶

Henderson Animal Protection Services rescued 21 Sphynx cats following an investigation into breeding practices at Sin City Sphynx. The City was awarded custody of the cats after the court determined the breeder was unfit to retain ownership.

Many of the cats suffered from illnesses and abnormalities linked to unethical breeding practices. The cats are receiving care and treatment through APS and adoption or rescue opportunities will be announced once they are healthy and ready for placement.

The City of Henderson takes animal welfare seriously. This case is a reminder of why responsible pet ownership and breeding matter. Henderson has ordinances in place to promote safe, humane care and protect the health and welfare of animals, and we will continue to enforce those standards.
