Gov. Josh Stein has proclaimed June 1-7 as the NC S.A.F.E. (Secure All Fi****ms Effectively) Week of Action. Established in 2023, the NC SAFE initiative is designed to raise awareness of the importance of safe firearm storage. During the Week of Action, organizations across North Carolina will distribute free gun locks and safe storage materials to residents. Since its inception, NC S.A.F.E. has distributed more than 175,000 gun locks to firearm owners across the state.

President Donald J. Trump recently approved federal funds to support areas recently affected by disasters, including Individual Assistance for eligible survivors in:

These funds also provide Public Assistance support to state, local and tribal governments to help their affected communities recover and rebuild, including Delaware, Kentucky and the Native Village of Kipnuk. Other federal funds available through an increased cost-share, which will supplement recovery efforts in the affected areas for the Havasupai Tribe.

Anyone can drown, no one should.

Drowning prevention starts with YOU:
👀 Supervise children & don’t look away when they're near water
🦺 Use safety equipment like life jackets & make sure they’re in place before going out on a boat
🏊‍♂️ Learn to swim, or if you can’t swim, stay away from the water
🌧️ Check the weather conditions, the depth of the water & the strength of the current before entering the water
🚫 Don’t drink alcohol near water. It dulls your senses & can cause fatal accidents near water

Remember! Drowning is often silent & goes unnoticed.
Watch for the signs when someone is struggling to stay afloat, it’s never too soon to respond.

Downtown Henderson is set to be the backdrop for a music and arts festival Sunday, June 14. The Henderson Music & Arts Festival. Five different groups are scheduled to perform from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the space between the police department, McGregor Hall and Perry Memorial Library. “Small Town Soul, Big Stage Jam.” Recognizing that everyone’s musical tastes are different, this music festival is going to have something for everyone, Stewardson said, from bluegrass and jazz to Southern rock, R & B to funk. Soul Livin’ jazz quartet from Durham, Noah Gibney trio from Boston, the Westbrooks, another local group, along with Jimmy and The Sound Barriers. Stewardson and Friends will round out the concert with a 90-minute set, he said. Stewardson will be at piano, accompanied by drums, bass, keyboards and vocalist.
