I’m bringing you today’s Chamber minute. The Henderson Vance County Chamber of Commerce is announcing another Student Leadership Vance Program beginning this fall. Through education, networking, peer interaction and problem solving, Student Leadership Vance will help prepare students for constructive and responsive involvement in community affairs. Participants in the program will learn the importance of teamwork and gain a better understanding of what it means to be a leader. The program is open to public, private, charter and home school rising sophomores and juniors in area high schools that are members of the Chamber. Interested students should contact their high school counselor or principal, home school leader or parents should contact the Chamber at [email protected] or call the Chamber office at 252-438-8414. The deadline for applying is September 11, 2026. The Student Leadership Program is free and space is limited. The Presenting Sponsor is Brightspeed, Gold Sponsors are Crossroads Christian School and Wake Electric, Silver Sponsors are Henderson Collegiate School and Benchmark Community Bank and Kids World, Incorporated is a Bronze Sponsor. Saturday, September 5th is the deadline to register for Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society’s Mulligan Island and Skipper 2 Charity Golf Tournament September 19th at Kerr Lake Country Club located at 600 Hedrick Drive, Henderson. The team entry fee is $300 which includes golf, a gift, breakfast, lunch, prizes and the opportunity to help save and improve lives of animals in Vance County. We don't say good-bye. We say carry on!! Congratulations to the Leadership-Vance Class of 2026. Graduation was held on August 27th at the Kerr Lake Country Club with 70 people in attendance. These 18 leaders completed the Leadership-Vance Program and are ready to continue to serve our great community. We are very grateful to all the businesses who opened their doors to give tours, give gifts, supply meals and answer questions from the participants. Chamber Board Chair, Dr. Abidan Shah, welcomed everyone to the graduation meal and ceremony and gave an uplifting speech focused on "what now". Graduates Nicole Shah had the invocation, Janice Ward and Robert Bowen provided reflections of the last 7 months, Whitney Davis and Rhonda Long provided information on the class project, Whitney Davis had a photo slide show and Renee Perry had closing remarks and gave her thoughts, hopes and dreams for the future of the class. Dr. Shah and Board Member David Figueroa presented the graduates with their awards as Sandra Wilkerson provided remarks about each participant. Thanks so much to our sponsors, Benchmark Community Bank, Walmart Distribution, and Karts Transportation.
