(PLEASE SHARE) - Traffic ADVISORY- Spottsville Bridge / US 60 East

As a reminder, a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has set the dates for two weekend closures of the US 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville in HENDERSON County.

The contractor plans to close the bridge the weekend of December 1, 2017 and the weekend of December 8, 2017 for repairs to one of the eastern approach spans.

The contractor plans to close the bridge to all traffic on this Friday, December 1, 2017 starting at 6 p.m., CST. The contractor is required to reopen the Spottsville Bridge by 5 a.m., CST, on Monday, December 4, 2017.

The contractor intends to close the bridge for a second weekend starting on Friday, December 8, 2017, at 6 p.m., CST, The contractor is required to reopen the bridge by 5 a.m., CST, on Monday, December 11, 2017.

The $62,600 repair contract was awarded to Intech Contracting, LLC, of Lexington.

During these weekend closures traffic that would normally travel US 60 between Henderson and Owensboro will be required to detour via the Audubon Parkway.

The US 60 Green River “Spottsville” Bridge has been restricted to one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by an automated signal and an 18-ton maximum load limit since October 5th, when inspectors found issues with some steel sections on one of the east approach spans. The bridge was initially restricted to an 8-ton load limit. However, by restricting traffic to one lane with an automated signal, engineers were able to raise the load restriction to 18-tons.

The Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky State Police, KSP Division of Vehicle Enforcement, and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department have provided escorts for caravans to allow farmers to move large equipment along the Audubon Parkway while the temporary lane and 18-ton load restriction is in place on the Spottsville Bridge. Those caravans will continue until the repair work is completed.

The U.S. 60 Green River “Spottsville” Bridge is located at U.S. 60 mile point 19.388 in Henderson County. Also known as the Spottsville Bridge and the Richard W. Owen Memorial Bridge, the 1,102 foot structure with a 359 foot main span was built as a toll bridge and opened to traffic in December 1931. Tolls were removed in August 1945.

Approximately 3,000 vehicles cross the bridge in an average day. The US 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville is 9 miles east of the US 41/US 60 Cloverleaf at Henderson and about 6 miles west of the Henderson-Daviess County Line.

The Spottsville Bridge is at Green River navigation mile point 8.6.
