💜 EDUCATION. EMPOWERMENT. PREVENTION. 💜
A huge thank you to Katie Lee, Director of Vance Recovery, and George Mayo of Morse Clinic for educating our Youth Academy Community Health Worker (CHW) students on how the brain works and how substance use disorder impacts the brain, behavior, and overall health.
🧠 Through education, awareness, and open conversations, we are equipping our future Community Health Workers with the knowledge and tools to understand addiction, reduce stigma, promote prevention, and support individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.
Our young leaders are learning that substance use disorder is a health condition—not a reason to judge someone. Knowledge creates understanding, and understanding creates opportunities for healing and recovery!

✨ NOD GALA: A NIGHT OF HOPE, HEALING, AND HUMANITY! ✨
What an honor to be part of the Nation of Diversity (NOD) Gala, celebrating five powerful success stories and shining a light on the realities of mental health and homelessness. ❤️
A special highlight of the evening was recognizing Founder Mariama Bah for her vision, dedication, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. Her work reminds us that behind every statistic is a human being deserving of dignity, compassion, and an opportunity to thrive.
Homelessness is more than the absence of a home, and mental health challenges are more than a diagnosis. They are human experiences that call for understanding, support, advocacy, and action.
As we celebrate success, let us remember those who are still fighting battles we cannot see. Together, we can break the stigma, restore hope, and build communities where everyone has a place to belong. Shoutout to Councilwoman Forte for her genuine support

🚨 HENDERSON: MANDATORY WATER CONSERVATION IS IN EFFECT 🚨
As Mayor, I am asking every resident, business, and water customer to help protect our community’s water supply. Critically low water levels in Kerr Lake require us to take action together.
Effective immediately, limit water use and avoid nonessential activities, including watering lawns and gardens, washing vehicles, and filling swimming pools.
💧 Take shorter showers.
💧 Repair leaks promptly.
💧 Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
💧 Turn off faucets when water is not needed.
These conservation measures will remain in effect until lake levels improve and the restrictions are lifted.
Thank you for doing your part and sharing this notice with your neighbors. Every drop matters. We must conserve together.

🙌 Our students are learning early how to use their voices to make a difference!
Through Empower CHW Institute’s (ECI) Advocacy 101 track, students from Vance County High School’s SAVE Club (Students Against Violence) and Student Government are building skills to advocate, lead, and create healthier, safer communities.
As Co-Founder of Empower CHW Institute and Mayor of Henderson, Melissa Elliott, I am proud to help prepare these young leaders to use their voices with confidence and purpose!
A special thank-you to Representative Bryan Cohn for welcoming our students. Taking them into the legislative chamber was THE BOMB! 🇺🇸 What a powerful opportunity to connect their learning to the place where decisions are made!

For 17 years, this beloved event has brought families, children, and neighbors together for fun, laughter, and lasting memories. It was beautiful seeing our community come out and enjoy everything the day had to offer!
