What a beautiful day in our community as we kicked off the A Way to Grow Festival with a community barbecue! 🎉🌭☀️
Families gathered, children enjoyed the splash pad, skateboarders showed off their skills, and everyone shared laughter, food, and fellowship. This is what community unity looks like!

Today was an inspiring display of community, leadership, and civic engagement as residents and leaders gathered in support of U.S. Senate candidate Roy Cooper.
It was wonderful to stand alongside Mayor Nurse of Oxford and so many community members who came out to show their support and hear a vision for North Carolina’s future.
Our communities in Henderson, Oxford, and throughout rural North Carolina deserve leadership that understands the importance of strong communities, economic opportunity, quality health care, education, public safety, and ensuring that every voice is heard.
We are proud to stand together and say: We support Roy Cooper for the United States Senate!
There is strength in unity, and when our communities come together with purpose, we can help move North Carolina forward.

Today, I had the privilege of witnessing Mrs. Hilda and Dr. Aaron Moore deliver a comprehensive and powerful Narcan (Naloxone) training and distribution session through North Carolina Central University’s Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute (BBRI).
As Mayor of the City of Henderson and Director of Rural Engagement & Partnerships with NCCU BBRI, I am grateful to be part of efforts that bring life-saving education, prevention, and resources directly into our communities.
A special acknowledgment to Leatrice Martin, our Team Lead at NCCU BBRI, for her leadership, commitment, and continued work to strengthen our team and expand BBRI's impact throughout the communities we serve.
Narcan can reverse an opioid overdose and give someone another chance at life. Equipping community members with the knowledge to recognize an overdose, properly administer Narcan, and respond in an emergency is not just education—it is an investment in public health, preparedness, and saving lives.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Hilda, Dr. Aaron Moore, Leatrice Martin, NCCU BBRI, and all of our partners who continue working to make these critical resources accessible to the people and communities who need them.

💜 HONORING THOSE WHO SERVED HENDERSON 💜
Today, I want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Henderson City Council for recognizing and preserving the legacies of two individuals who dedicated important years of their lives to serving our city—former Council Member Sara Coffey and former Mayor Eddie Ellington.
💜 Former Council Member Sara Coffey was honored by having her name and legacy permanently placed at the Purple Heart flagpole. What a meaningful tribute to a woman whose years of service, commitment, and love for Henderson have left a lasting mark on our community.
⛲ Former Mayor Eddie Ellington was honored at our downtown water fountain, recognizing his leadership and service as Mayor of the City of Henderson and his contributions to our community.
I believe it is important that we give people their flowers and recognize their service. Our city’s history is written through the people who have stepped forward to lead, serve, and work on behalf of Henderson.
To my fellow members of the Henderson City Council—thank you for making these recognitions possible. These tributes remind future generations that public service matters and that those who have helped shape our city should not be forgotten.
Congratulations and thank you to Sara Coffey and Eddie Ellington for your years of dedicated service to the citizens of Henderson. May your names and contributions continue to be a part of our city's story for generations to come. ❤️
