ON 09-28-2026 at around 2:47PM a Rusk County Patrol Deputy received an alert from a RCSO ALPR camera of a stolen vehicle out of Gregg County. The deputy confirmed that the vehicle in the alert was stolen from Gregg County, the deputy along with others he had alerted, then began to actively try and locate the stolen vehicle. Another deputy came across the stolen vehicle on FM 322 around County Road 240 in Rusk County and as he turned around on the vehicle to make a traffic stop the occupant fled in the vehicle. During the pursuit the occupant pulled into the Crims Chapel church and drove behind the church at which time the occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Albert Jones B/M 65 years of age out of Henderson, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Deputies then set a perimeter and conducted a search and Jones was located on St. Hwy. 322 about a ¼ mile from where he fled on foot. The vehicle was searched and narcotics were located inside the vehicle.

Jones was charged with Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (State jail felony), Evading arrest or detention with a vehicle ( Felony 3) Evading arrest or detention (MA), Possession of a controlled substance ( State jail felony) and Driving while license invalid with previous conviction (Class B Misdemeanor) Jones was arraigned by Justice of the Peace precinct 5 Jana Enloe who set bonds totaling $28,000.

In September of 2026, the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office investigated a series of reports of infrastructure crime (oil field thefts) that were occurring in the Laird Hill Community. Theses thefts resulted in the loss of crude oil production time, as well as causing approximately twenty thousand dollars in damage to oil field equipment. Leads developed during the investigation led to four separate felony arrest warrants being issued on Thomas Overman 45 of Laird Hill. On September 17, 2026, Overman was arrested by Rusk County Deputies and served with the outstanding warrants for Tampering with Oil Field Equipment (two counts), and Theft of Material (two counts). Overman is currently confined in the Rusk County Jail where he received bonds totaling two hundred and sixty thousand ($260,000.00) dollars. Arrest warrants and bonds were issued by Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Jana Enloe. Rusk County Sheriff’s Office authorities are continuing to follow up on leads on other reported infrastructure crime that has been reported in Rusk and surrounding counties to determine if the thefts are connected.

On September 11, 2026, a traffic stop in the Mt Enterprise area by Patrol Shift D resulted in the seizure of approximately 1.4 pounds of suspected M**A (Ecstasy), and thirteen (13) bottles of suspected Promethazine ( Lean). Additionally located was suspected ma*****na, suspected Adderall, suspected Oxycodone, and suspected Alprazolam (Xanax). The suspected contraband items were located by law enforcement during a probable cause search of the vehicle. Arrested during the investigation was Frank Edwards Jr 38 of Houston, and Takeasha Peoples 37 of Houston. Edwards and Peoples are currently confined in the Rusk County Jail charged with the criminal offense of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Edwards and Peoples each have bonds totaling two hundred and twenty thousand ($ 220,000.00) dollars which were set by Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Jana Enloe.
