Contracted pole inspectors with Osmose will be in the Cherokee feeder 2 area, which is highlighted on the map below. You may notice crews in your area checking power poles, which is part of our routine pole inspection program with Osmose.
These inspections help us make sure the wooden poles that support your power lines are still strong, safe, and reliable.
So what are they doing out there?
✔️ Visually inspecting poles for cracks, decay, or damage
✔️ Gently digging around the base of the pole to check for rot below ground
✔️ Sounding the pole (tapping it) to detect internal issues
✔️ Drilling a small hole to measure the pole’s internal condition (don’t worry—it doesn’t harm the pole!)
✔️ Marking or tagging poles that may need maintenance or replacement
You might see small holes near the base of the pole, fresh dirt around it, or crews working on foot or in trucks.
This work is a key part of preventing outages before they happen and keeping our system safe and reliable for all members.
If you spot these crews out and about, just know they’re helping us stay one step ahead.
