Hendersonville Rescue Mission

Hendersonville Rescue Mission Any agency can put a new coat on a man, but only Christ Jesus can put a new man in the coat. George and Anne Cox founded this ministry in 1981. Mr.

Our story began in 1981 with a man named George Cox and a Little Debbie food truck... our modern day story of the "fishes and loaves"! George was studying at Fruitland Bible Institute and driving a Little Debbie truck for a living at the time, and everyday he went through 7th Avenue seeing the people in need and feeling God's tug to do something to help; he just wasn't sure what. Then one day at c

hurch, a fellow member handed him $50 and said, "George this is for your ministry." Cox took that money and purchased a commercial sized coffee maker, and with his expired yet edible Little Debbie cakes, set up shop in the area that would soon become home to the Hendersonville Rescue Mission. He worked tirelessly to feed those in need and prayed for further guidance on what to do next. Through his prayer and generous donations from the community, HRM no longer just serves delicious hot, balanced meals to the public, but also provides shelter, guidance, education, support and hope to those looking to better their lives.

Today we would like to share that Rev. Tim Jones will be stepping into a new season of ministry in the coming weeks. We are filled with gratitude as we look back over the nearly 25 years that Tim has faithfully served here with us. His compassion, steady leadership, and genuine care for others have shaped Hendersonville Rescue Mission in ways that are hard to put into words. He will be deeply missed by all of us.

Yet even in the sadness of saying goodbye, we rejoice knowing that Tim will continue the good work that God has given him at St James Episcopal Church. With grateful hearts, we pray for him and wish him well during this time of transition.

Listen now to a special edition of ‘A Minute with the CEO’ as Rev. McMinn shares his appreciation for Tim and reflects on the impact he has made here at HRM.

We had such a wonderful time with all of our guests at the summer launch cookout on Friday! The weather was perfect for fun outdoor games and delicious food hot off the grill as well as everybody’s favorite: ice cream sandwiches!

We are thrilled to be able to share this great space with our community every Friday throughout the summer.

Some of the men in our Recovery and Discipleship programs enjoyed a healthy grilling demonstration today, thanks to our wonderful volunteers, A.T. & Lauren Cason and Eric Warren.

They learned how to prepare budget‑friendly, nutritious meals and picked up some great grilling tips along the way. It was a beautiful day filled with good food, fellowship, and encouragement.

Many thanks to Joe and Joanne Nemeth for stopping by with a generous donation from WoodmenLife - Swannanoa, NC Chapter 970. Since 1890, WoodmenLife has reinvested its profits back into its mission—supporting members and strengthening communities.
We’re grateful they chose to bless our ministry and help those who are hurting and homeless find stability, hope, and a fresh start.

In our latest recording of 'A Minute with the CEO', we had the joy of hearing from two of our most seasoned and faithful volunteers, George and Susan Davidson. Their steady commitment to serving our community—and sharing the love of Christ with all those they meet here at the Rescue Mission—continues to inspire us all.

We had an amazing Day of Caring with volunteers from United Way! They jumped right in, learned more about how we serve our neighbors, and did an incredible job deep cleaning our dining hall, chapel, and Life Enrichment Center.

A huge thank‑you to every volunteer who participated and to United Way of Henderson County for organizing such a meaningful community event!

A beautiful milestone arrived earlier than expected. Karen—who recently celebrated two years of sobriety and has faithfully served as our Mission Attendant—now holds the keys to her very own home! What a joy to watch her step into this next season with confidence and hope.

We will all miss her daily presence here but our hearts are full as we see God opening this new door.

On the eve of her departure she shared, “This was really a God thing. I never expected the first place I looked at to work out so well. I’m overwhelmed with feelings, but I’m so grateful to the Mission, and I’m going to miss everyone.”

We thank God for His faithfulness and for the chance to witness the amazing transformation that has taken place in Karen’s life.

“So encourage each other and build each other up”. - 1 Thessalonians 5:11

The ladies at Hendersonville Rescue Mission had a lovely time during the 2nd annual planting of our Healing Garden. It was a wonderful day to delight in God’s beauty with the sun shining and the soil on their hands.

Many thanks to volunteer, Laura Morris, for sharing her expertise and encouraging the women in this endeavor.
