Have you heard, it's America's 250th this year! We are trying to compile a list of Revolutionary War Veterans and Patriots buried at Beech Historic Cemetery. We are asking folks who have traced ancestry, perhaps by applying to SAR or DAR, to let us know if you have an ancestor with direct ties to the Revolutionary War who is buried here at "The Beech."

Before there was Adele and Cher, there was Sadie. As in Ms. Sadie. Our last character for the 2025 Beech Historic Cemetery Tour is Sadie Avaritt Hurt. Just the mention of her first name brings a smile to all the folks who had the pleasure of making her acquaintance. Come and hear Debra Rice tell us a bit more about Sadie's life. As she lived to age 105, it might take a while!

Luther Clifford Bloodworth grew up sharecropping on other people's farms, so it was a great accomplishment when he was able to purchase a farm of his own. Like so many Shackle Island residents, Luther tried to live a simple life with his wife Nell and their children. His son was always known as "Junior Bloodworth", some of you may remember Junior as a carpenter. Come hear Harley Pierce share the story of Luther's life at the annual Beech Historic Cemetery tour on October 18th. Tours begin approximately every 15 minutes from 4pm until 8pm. The Beech Mother's Day out will be having a soup and chili dinner, so you can grab dinner & a show, without leaving Shackle Island!

After a day of rest, we would like to thank our army of volunteers for best attended cemetery tour to date! We estimated over 330 folks visited this year. Without the wonderful volunteers this fundraiser would not be possible. And what great performances. Now the work begins for 2025. Who would y'all like to see featured next year?
