At the request of the owner, Saturday, May 30, Edneyville Fire & Rescue will be doing a practice burn at the little house beside J&M Farms on 64 East from 9 am to 5 pm. Traffic may slow down in that location from cautious drivers but the road will remain open. This burn will provide invaluable, real life firefighting experience for our department. Have a safe weekend!

Due to a Semi having difficulty navigating the large curve, Gilliam Mtn Rd is shut down at this time. Those needing to go up the mountain while we await a rollback will need to detour Pilot Mtn Rd to Lamb Mtn Rd.

North Carolina troopers don’t need to hide anymore… they just let the Corvette do the psychological damage for them. 😭🚔

You’ll be cruising down I-85 feeling untouchable.
Music up.
One hand on the wheel.
Passing everybody like you personally funded the left lane.

Then out of nowhere…
you see it sitting on the shoulder.

Low.
Gray.
Aggressive.
Looking less like a patrol car and more like somebody’s midlife crisis with government funding. 💀

At first your brain tries to stay optimistic:
“Maybe it’s just a regular Corvette.”

Wrong.

The lights flip on and suddenly the entire vehicle develops an aura of financial consequences.

Now everybody on the highway transforms instantly:
• Chargers slow down like they just remembered church
• Altimas begin lane-switching in survival mode
• Lifted trucks stop tailgating for the first time in recorded history
• And somebody up ahead taps their brakes so hard the whole county feels it

Meanwhile the trooper is just sitting there calm as ever knowing one simple truth:

Nobody expects a North Carolina State Trooper Corvette until it’s already too late. 😭

And somehow…
there’s STILL one dude in a clapped-out Nissan with paper tags doing 97 weaving through traffic like he’s trying to unlock a hidden achievement on I-40.

North Carolina highways really are a beautiful balance of mountain scenery, pine trees, Cook Out cravings, and complete driving chaos. 🌲💀

No burning after 6 pm today and all burn permits are canceled

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Does this mean you can still burn? Yes. Do we really wish you wouldn't? Absolutely! Wait until we get some spring showers....don't tie up resources and tax payer $$$ putting out your "out of control" fire!!

Effective Saturday, March 28 at 8 a.m., the National Weather Service has issued a ** 🚩🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩🚩** for some North Carolina counties. For counties that aren’t under a red flag, fire danger is still critical. Review weather alerts for North Carolina at weather.gov.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous fire behavior.

While open burning is permitted during a red flag, it is NOT advised. Please postpone ALL outdoor burning. If there was ever a time to show you can follow instructions the first time they are given, it’s now.

Careless debris burning is the leading cause of wildfires in North Carolina, and you are our best defense against wildfire. For wildfire readiness and prevention tips: preventwildfirenc.org

WE know YOU know that this weekend is the time to change those batteries. BUT we also want you to check the expiration date on the detector. After 10 years, the smoke sensors also go bad and it is time to replace the entire detector which should come with its very own brand NEW battery!!
