Just want to give a shout out to Rick Murray, Kelly M. Walberg and Andy Gilley for all you did and for all the help of our community partners and donors for helping our local businesses recover. It’s not over yet.

I also want to explain because people ask this ALL the time. Why are you giving grants to local businesses did they not have insurance. YES, they did and one would assume that would cover it. Let me give you a few examples:

1. When property is damaged and has to be built back. Most insurance companies cover replacing what you had. However, these businesses had been there awhile. Therefore, they had to build back to current codes. Upgrades not covered by insurance!

2. One business the insurance covered the inside of the building an not the outside but much of their revenue came from what people could eat and do on the outside sitting area.

3. One business had damage that needed replaced but the insurance company would only put a bandaid on it and that was a short term not a long term solution.

Now that businesses know what the insurance company will and will not do they need our help. Please consider supporting them if possible! 💛

Hey ya'll, we still need your help. It has been a hard 8 months for local businesses impacted by the December Tornados and now it is getting down to the wire for some businesses struggling to stay alive. We have gifted $400,000 to local business, but we still need to do more and are OUT of Funds.

People often ask, why doesn't insurance handle all the expenses..... let me give you 3 examples of situation for people that have not received funds but are now requesting it.

1. Building back to current codes. One business had insurance but they did not have the clause that covered them to build back to current codes. The tornado hit on the older side of town so many were Grandfathered in to old codes. The cost is substantial and they are struggling to survive.

2. One business was demolished and has been under construction for 8 months. Recently, NES came out and said since they expanded their building size (slightly) they would have to increase their electricity lines and add a new power pole costing $35,000. They thought they were close to the finish line and knocked back down again.

3. One business is ready to reopen finally. They have been paying their top 3 employees for 8 months (they lost the other 14 during the process), drained their savings, emptied their retirement, but finally got their Certificate of Occupancy. Problem is they owe these employees for the entire month of July and now that they are finally ready to reopen are in jeapardy of losing them.

This is only a few examples of why businesses in Hendersonville need your help. If you can help in anyway, BIG or Small we would appreciate your donation. The Hendersonville Chamber Foundation is a 501C3, tax deductable Charitable organization.
