We join millions around the world in celebrating the extraordinary life and legacy of Dolly Parton.

While the world knew her as a music icon, to countless children across these mountains, she was simply the "Book Lady." Born right here in Appalachia, Dolly understood firsthand the transformative power of early education. She created the Imagination Library to ensure that every child—from birth to age five—could grow up with a home library and a love for reading, regardless of their family's circumstances.

At WNCSource, that mission is deeply personal. Serving children across Western North Carolina during those same crucial birth-to-five years, our Head Start and Early Head Start teams carry forward that exact spirit every single day.

From Sevier County, TN to Western NC, Dolly showed us what happens when an Appalachian community invests unconditionally in its youngest generations. As we honor her memory, we remain fiercely committed to keeping her vision alive in our classrooms—fostering literacy, curiosity, and bright futures for mountain families.

The UNC Highway Safety Research Center is seeking North Carolinians with disabilities, or their caregivers, to participate in an online survey about barriers and challenges they experience during everyday travel. This survey is intended to collect information about the transportation experiences of people with a wide range of disabilities.

We are proud to be part of the Older Adult Collaborative through Dogwood Health Trust to help make aging with dignity and independence possible! One in three adults in Transylvania County is over the age of 60 - that's why our LunchPlus Congregate Meal programs and Mobile Meal deliveries are so essential to our rural seniors. We also provide liquid nutrition, shelf stable meal boxes, and personal hygiene products to older adults in Transylvania County and provide connection through our volunteers.
