Affordable housing advocates, this is a big moment!!!

The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is one step away from becoming law, and the House of Representatives could vote on it as soon as today.

This legislation includes several provisions that Habitat for Humanity has long supported, including:

✅ Strengthening the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, a critical tool for affordable homeownership
✅ Supporting repairs that help preserve existing homes
✅ Expanding opportunities for affordable housing development in rural communities
✅ Allowing more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to be used for housing construction
✅ Encouraging local communities to remove barriers to new housing development
✅ Providing long-term authorization for the CDBG-Disaster Recovery program, which helps communities recover after disasters

Affordable housing remains one of the biggest challenges facing communities across Western North Carolina and beyond. This legislation would help create and preserve more homes for families, seniors, and workers who need them.

Now is the time to act. Contact your U.S. Representative and urge them to vote YES on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. You can use the form found at the link below.

We're closer than ever to meaningful progress. Let's help get this bill across the finish line.

Let’s call on Congress to finalize legislation to support affordable homeownership.

What does the affordable housing crisis really look like in Hendersonville?

It's not just numbers on a spreadsheet or statistics in a report. It's teachers, restaurant workers, healthcare employees, retirees, young families, and longtime neighbors struggling to find a place they can afford to call home.

This powerful video, *Faces of Housing in Hendersonville*, shares the stories behind the housing challenges our community faces every day. Produced as part of the City of Hendersonville's Strategic Housing Plan, the video highlights how rising housing costs are affecting the people who live and work here.

At Henderson County & Thermal Belt Habitat for Humanity, we see these challenges firsthand. Every family deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to live, and addressing our region's housing needs will take all of us working together.

Take a few minutes to watch, listen, and learn more about why affordable housing matters for the future of our community.

This Father's Day, we're celebrating the fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, father figures, and positive male role models who help build strong families and strong communities.

Today, we honor the dads who make up the Habitat family, whether they're homeowners working toward a brighter future, volunteers giving their time and talents, or staff members serving our mission every day.

A safe, stable, and affordable home creates space for family dinners, homework around the kitchen table, backyard adventures, and countless everyday moments that become lasting memories. Fathers and father figures play an important role in making those moments possible.

Thank you to all the men who lead with kindness, show up when it matters, and help make a house a home.

Happy Father's Day from Henderson County & Thermal Belt Habitat for Humanity!

A Habitat home changed one generation of this family. Now it's changing another.

Last week, we celebrated the dedication of Galena's new home, just a short distance from the Habitat home her son, Ilie, and daughter-in-law, Liudmilla, purchased in 2019.

Galena is now the owner of Habitat's very first one-bedroom home, thoughtfully designed to be ADA-compliant so she can age in place safely and comfortably for years to come.

After emigrating from Moldova and spending years helping care for her grandchildren while sharing a home with her son's family, Galena now has a place of her own while remaining close to the people she loves most. For her, this home means independence. For her family, it means peace of mind.

As our communities continue to age, affordable homes that allow seniors to remain independent are more important than ever. We are proud that Galena's home represents a new chapter not only for her family, but also for Habitat's commitment to creating housing options for older adults.

Congratulations, Galena! We can't wait to see the memories you make in your new home.

We want to thank our generous sponsors, Publix Charities and Wells Fargo, for helping us make this milestone possible.

Some days, a little rain just brings everyone closer together.

When storms rolled through during our recent home dedication celebration, we simply moved the party inside. Surrounded by family, friends, volunteers, and supporters, Yesenia officially received the keys to the home she worked so hard to achieve. (So did another new homeowner, Galena, but you'll have to tune in tomorrow to hear about her!)

As a single mother of two, Yesenia dreamed of becoming a homeowner. She wanted a stable place for her children to grow, play, and build their future. After years of hard work and determination, that dream is now a reality. As Yesenia puts it, "I came to the time and moment I had to think about the future of my children."

The weather may have changed our plans, but it couldn't dampen the joy inside those walls. Every room was filled with laughter, gratitude, and the excitement of a family beginning a new chapter.

Congratulations, Yesenia! We are honored to be part of your journey home.

We want to give special thanks to our sponsors, Publix Charities, Bank of America, and First Citizens Bank, for helping us make Yesenia's dream a reality.

A few weeks ago, Ms. Moffitt got to go back home!

We're excited to celebrate the completion of our second full home rebuild of a house destroyed by Hurricane Helene.

When the storm struck Polk County, Ms. Moffitt's home was severely damaged, leaving her without safe, sta which contributed $100k to this rebuild via tion of things before the rebuild began). Today, thanks to the support of donors, volunteers, and community partners, she has a place to call home once again.

We want to give special thanks to the sponsors of this house, including the Office of Governor Josh Stein who contributed $100k to this rebuild via Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina, and The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. Together, we rebuild!
