Response to Valley North Transmission Line Project
This letter is in regard to the proposed Valley North Transmission line. We have been notified that the line if allowed to proceed would divide our farm in half. There would be three towers on our property. All of them are in our front yard. The idea of having these monster towers along with all the lines ill effects in our yard is devastating to our family.
The farm has been in our family for generations. My wife and I have operated and maintained the cattle operation for over 40 years and have been good stewards of the land. We live on what is known as Pifer Mountain in Tucker County, West Virginia. We overlook the Cheat River and have views of Back Bone Mountain near Parsons in the distance. We have a million-dollar view from our porch. We love our farm, our state and our country.
If allowed to proceed the towers would take out a historical feature known as Indian Point. This is a ledge of rocks which once had a cave which the Indians used as a lookout point to watch the settlers in the valley along the cheat river. At that time there was a fort named Fort Minear. It also was the point that after an Indian raid which killed Jonathon Minear, three Indians were last seen crossing Indian Point taking hostages. This is depicted in a book “History of Tucker County, West Virginia by author Hu Maxwell.
Our farm relies on springs to supply our home, barns and cattle with water. To place this massive monstrosity across our farm will affect the springs. Any spraying or construction will cause great harm to our water sources along with the wetlands. We live in an area where public water will never be available to us. Water is life and without it nothing can live on our property. The way of life lived for centuries will be lost forever.
As residents of West Virginia, we should all be against the destruction of over 7,000 acres of our beautiful state. If other states need electricity, they should build their own power plants closer to the need. We should not destroy West Virginia for the benefit of other states. We have done this in the past and we should not repeat the mistakes. Our state should not be for sale. This “extension cord” does not benefit our state only the politicians and Power Company officials that want this to happen.
Please stop any further plans for this destructive project and deny approval.
