Hello everyone! If you didn't know October 5th-11th is Fire Prevention week! This year's focus is on batteries. We all have devices in in our home that require batteries that need to be replaced or recharged. A couple examples are smoke alarms, phones, tablets, remote control toys....the list goes on and on! This morning (Monday 5th) we meet with the local elementary and some daycare providers to go over some ways we can make batteries safe and properly recharge those that can.
- Dispose of all batteries at proper sites
- If batteries are giving off a weird oder or smell extremely warm, do not use them! Dispose of them and get new.
- If you are charging you phones, tablets or other rechargeable devices, do some in a safe place such as a hard surface. Please do not charge them on your pillows, couches or other places that may start on fire easily.
- We also want to remind you to check your smoke alarms once a month
- Change batteries at least once a year.
- Check your expiration date on your alarms and replace if they are expired or are not working properly.
- Check your fire extinguishers, make sure they are in working order. (Saftey pin is in, check gauge, and might even have to shake or tamp with of rubber mallet to loosen up the material inside)
- Go over your fire escape plan. Make sure family members know how to safely get out and where to meet at once out of the building.
We are here to help in case of an emergency but if we all do a little maintenance, we may be able to help reduce a tragedy!
