Our Core Beliefs...

We believe that each child is important and that as a school we must reinforce the self-worth of our students by respecting their individual rights and beliefs and providing them access to a curriculum that accommodates their individual interests, challenges them, and stimulates their inner drive to learn. We believe that learning happens over a lifetime and is a process invol

ving risk-taking, failure, and success and that as a school we must help students to understand this process as necessary for success in school and in the 21st century workplace. We believe that we are partners in the learning process and that the school can only help each student to develop as creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and ethical decision makers through an engaging partnership with the Henniker community and its families.

This morning, you may have seen Officer Lacombe and Principal Morrill with a group of HCS students discussing how to safely cross Route 114 in the middle of Henniker. Students had the opportunity to ask lots of questions during the lesson. Officer Lacombe did a great job of stressing the importance of being careful and explaining the hazards of this section of road.

Safety for students crossing 114 has been identified as an area of concern for the Henniker School Board, so we will continue to partner with the Henniker Police Department to make sure our students are safe.

The 8th graders are en route home! Wow, that went fast! Yesterday we saw "Sheer Madness" (and I think we're coming home with some students who have a new love for the performing arts); toured the Smithsonian museums; ate at Carmines for a fancy, family-style dinner; met the brand new baby elephant at the zoo, and became spies who solved a mission at the Spy Museum.

The students have been fabulous; thank you for sharing them with us for 5 days.

Last day in DC for the 8th graders! Students have exhibited great patience and flexibility--we are so lucky to have such a lovely group of young people in our community.

Yesterday, we toured the Air and Space Museum, finished up the memorials, saw the changing of the guards at Arilington Cemetery, jumped off a high dive, and chatted face-to-face with a Holocaust survivor at the Holocaust Museum.

More tomorrow!

Day 2 in DC was so fun! We went to Mount Vernon, visited the Washington Monument, saw a bunch of the memorials, heard ghost stories, and had a boat cruise on the Potomac River. Students are having a great time!

Today we welcomed New Hampshire author Larry Daley, author of Float. Mr. Daley worked with students in grades 3-5. In addition to reading his new book, Mr. Daley discussed the creative process, how books are made, and the many careers that are connected to making books. Our students were great audience members and asked great questions of Mr. Daley. Thank you to the Henniker PTA whose donations support special experience like this!

Such amazing HCS readers! Thank you Henniker PTA for all your support!
