Because you only do this once a year: Here's a refresher how-to for your Virginia CPA license renewal, due June 30.

Tip: Once you make your payment, it can take up to 24 hours for the renewal to process. You can log back in to your portal and look for the expiration date of your license. If you renewed successfully, that should read 6/30/27. If your renewal is on hold, you will receive an email from VBOA.

Certain CPAs who have retired may now apply for Emeritus status, which launches officially on July 1. Emeritus is a CPE-exempt status like Inactive, but will allow more flexibility for volunteering.

will qualify if they:

- Are retired and do not provide any services for compensation.

- Have been licensed for at least 30 years, or have been licensed for 15 years and are at least aged 60.

- Hearing from Dr. Ruth Coles Harris about her experience becoming the first African-American woman to earn her in Virginia.

- An introduction from new Secretary of Finance Mark Sickles.

- Greetings from Dr. Davida Haywood, EVP & COO, Virginia Union University.

All Richmond-area students interested in a career are invited to join the Board of Accountancy on Wednesday, April 22, for a special on-campus meeting at Virginia Union University.

Board members will present on student-centered topics designed to help you understand the exam and licensing processes.

The meeting will also feature special guest Dr. Ruth Coles Harris, the first African-American woman to earn her CPA license in Virginia.
