💖Happy Valentine’s Day! And thank you to everyone who contributed cards for our Spread the Love campaign!

This year, Henrico County, VA - Aging Services collected nearly 5,000 homemade valentines that were donated to residents of local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

"The activities directors for the facilities are very excited to be able to distribute them," Advocate for the Aging Ashlee Giles said after delivering cards much of the week. "They feel the community has really come through."

The cards’ variety was inspiring. Some were made by children, others by seasoned crafters. A few were intended for military veterans or firefighters. Others were just sweet and punny - 🐝mine!

The valentines were submitted by more than three dozen groups, including schools, families and civic and professional organizations. A few even came from out of state, including North Carolina, Texas and Michigan. "People were very invested in this program, and that's wonderful," Giles said.

About 30,000 cards have been distributed through Spread the Love since 2020.

Please join us for Wisdom Watch Alliance's Summit on Best Practices for Community Cognitive Screening: Community leaders, clinicians, caregivers, and advocates are encouraged to participate in a working session to help prepare a statement of best practices for screening older adults for cognitive decline or impairment. This interactive and outcome-driven Summit will work to identify what is currently happening in community screening settings, name barriers that keep people from timely evaluation and support, map what “best practice” looks like across settings (churches, libraries, community centers, adult day programs), and draft a shared statement of best practices that can be endorsed and used by partners.
