Today we traveled to Mexico to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! Our staff enjoyed a delicious taco bar, prepared by the talented culinary students at Varina High School. It was a festive and fun way to continue showing our appreciation. We also received a generous donation of snacks and drinks from Speaking Spirit Ministries, which made the day even more special for our staff.

We look forward to continuing our journey around the world all week long as we honor the dedication, passion, and hard work of our teachers. Thank you for your continued support in helping us make this a special week for them!

We are excited to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week with our amazing staff! This year, we are taking our teachers on an imaginary trip across the globe to show our gratitude for all they do each day for our students.

Today, we kicked things off right here in the USA with an all-American cookout, generously sponsored by City To City Automotive Group. It was a wonderful way to start the week and celebrate our teachers close to home!

Tomorrow, we will travel to Mexico as we celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a delicious taco bar, prepared by the talented culinary students at Varina High School.

HENRICO SCHOOLS CALENDAR UPDATE 📆

On April 21, Virginia will hold a recently announced special election requiring the use of several dozen Henrico Schools sites as polling places. In keeping with existing division safety protocols for elections, schools will be closed for students and school-based staff on Tuesday, April 21 (12-month employees will report as usual). To recapture a portion of this time, HCPS will convert the planned early dismissal day on Thursday, March 19, to a full day of learning.

Unlike times of inclement weather, the Virginia Code does not recognize remote learning to offset instructional time lost due to election day closures, which necessitated this change. An updated calendar is available on the school division website at https://www.henricoschools.us/page/school-calendar.

In the unlikely event of additional snow days or other emergency closures this school year, the division will leverage remote learning to make up for lost instructional time.

We understand that schedule changes can create challenges for families, and we appreciate your flexibility as we comply with election day needs while continuing to prioritize student learning. Thank you.

With several days of warmer temperatures and last night’s rain, conditions across Henrico are changing over to slush, making it safer for school buses to be on the road. Therefore, all HCPS schools and offices will open 2 hours late on Thursday, Feb. 5. (Facilities staff: Code 4.) This ensures additional daylight before students make their way to bus stops.

Today, HCPS Transportation staff checked planned routes. Our experienced bus drivers will continue to exercise caution, which may result in some delays during morning pickup, so we ask for your patience. As a reminder, you can get real-time bus updates by downloading the Edulog Parent Portal mobile app.

On school campuses, mechanical systems are up and running, parking lots and sidewalks are cleared, and salt is being used to help melt any remaining patches of snow and ice. Students are encouraged to be careful and follow the directions of any staff on site.

We know this has been an extremely challenging week for everyone, but we never lost sight of what mattered most. Together, we prioritized community safety and our collective commitment to getting students and employees back to school as quickly and safely as possible. Your understanding, flexibility and partnership are greatly appreciated.

We hope everyone has enjoyed their snow days! Teaching and learning resumes tomorrow! 2hr delay; students should be at the bus stop 2hrs later than their normal scheduled time.

HCPS will operate on a 2-hour delay Wednesday, Dec. 10. (Facilities staff: Code 4.)

As a reminder, when schools open late, all ½-day preschool classes are canceled. We’ll keep an eye on road conditions overnight and update you if more changes are needed.
