We here at Joy VFD would like to thank the anonymous donor that left us water, electrolyte packs, and money as a donation. Thank you so much, without a great community like you we would not be able to do what we do. We would also like to thank the directors and organizers of the Hotter N Hell Hundred for their donation of electrolyte and recovery drinks to the Joy VFD. We are eternally grateful that they kept us in mind and give us a lot of support. Also, a special shout out to Amanda Threlkeld for all of her help. Your awesome!!!

We at Joy VFD would like to thank Amber Strickland and family for a very generous donation today. Amber brought snacks, pickles, wipes, water and electrolyte drinks by the station. These items make it much easier to keep our firefighters out for extended periods in these heat conditions. We’d also like to thank Atmos Energy for the generous donation of water. It is very much appreciated. We couldn’t do what we do without the support of the community. Y’all are awesome!!!

This morning your Joy VFD along with Bluegrove VFD, Vashti VFD, Scotland VFD, and Clay County Emergency Manager Kieth Burch responded to FM 174 and Old Joy Shannon Rd for hay bales on fire. Approximately 30 round bales were burned up. We were able to put a line around the area thanks to Spivey bringing their maintainer out and some other equipment. We were able to complete a back burn at that time to prevent the embers from reigniting pasture land. A huge shout out to Jess and Daniel Spivey for their help as well as the private skid steers that were there. You may see smoke from that are for a couple days as the hay bales smolder. As always if you are concerned feel free to call 911 and we will check it out.

Today will be yet another extreme fire danger day. Please be aware of anything that could create a spark. Have water on hand as needed. Any fire that ignites will have the probability of fast spread and extreme fire behavior. Don’t park in tall grass. Please be aware and be ready to evacuate the area if a fire is near. If you do have to be outside stay hydrated. As always, if you need help call it in and we’ll come running.

So Joy VFD was graciously donated quite a few playground items to put in Sam O’Dell memorial park directly behind the fire station. Firstly I’d like to thank our generous donors. Secondly, I’d like to thank Matt and Julie Theisen for working to acquire this donation. Then I’d like to thank Matt, Julie, and R.C. Skelton for picking this stuff up. Then I’d like to thank Matt, Julie, R.C., Mike Farris and Mark Cooper for helping to put all of this playground equipment together this morning. Y’all did a great job and I’m sure it will be enjoyed. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank my son, Christopher Lane for being the quality tester and first guinea pig to try it all out. Thank you guys so much!!! Y’all are awesome and we couldn’t make this organization keep moving forward without yall!!!
