As many of you know, many county roads have become overgrown with trees over the years. Overhanging limbs create a canopy that shades the roadway, which can lead to several long-term issues, including reduced visibility, slower drying after rain, and deterioration of the road surface.
If you’ve ever cleared trees or brush, you know what may seem like a small amount quickly turns into a very large pile. Once removed, that brush has to be hauled away. Currently, we often have to transport it all the way back to the County Barn south of Henryetta. Because brush is bulky and difficult to load, it extends in every direction from the dump truck, making transportation both time-consuming and inefficient. While we chip what we can, that process also takes a significant amount of time.
On several recent projects, generous landowners have allowed us to place brush on their property near the work area. This has helped us complete projects much faster and make better use of our crews and equipment.
With that in mind, we are looking for a landowner near S220 Road and Conifer Road who would be willing to accept a large amount of brush. Our goal is to clear the overhanging tree canopy along Conifer Road from S220 to S210. Having a nearby location to dispose of the brush would allow us to temporarily close the road during the daytime—when traffic is typically lighter due to work and school—and complete the project as safely and efficiently as possible.
If you own property in that area and would be willing to help, please contact the Okmulgee County District 3 Barn at 918-652-4474.
We also have several other areas throughout the county that need similar tree and brush clearing. Even if you don’t live near Conifer Road, we’d still love to hear from you. If your property is near one of our future projects, your assistance could help us improve our roads more efficiently while saving taxpayers both time and money.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our crews and the work we do to keep Okmulgee County roads safe and accessible.
