I recently provided News and Tribune the following answers for an article about our BHSC school board race.
Introduction:
I am a K-12 Henryville student/graduate with strong ties to our communities and 4 nephews currently enrolled in BHSC. I have my own meal prep and catering business, serving Clark County and beyond. After college and over the span of my career in financial services, I have been responsible for managing large budgets, complying with company and industry standards, as well as team and moral building.
Why are you running for school board?
I am running for the BHSC School Board in order to have the opportunity to work as a team with our school board and leadership. I want to raise our standards within BHSC to improve our learning environment and bring out the best in each Borden Brave and each Henryville Hornet. I want to improve pay and conditions for our teachers so we can retain and attract top talent.
What would be your main priorities as a school board member? Borden-Henryville is still a relatively new district, so are there any particular needs that you think need to be addressed in the school system?
My focus will be on elevating our student's education experiences and achievements, looking out for the best interests of all students, following school policy, being a good steward of taxpayer dollars, uniting our Borden and Henryville communities and graduating students who are highly competitive in the workforce and higher education. As a new district, we need to make good decisions that are sustainable over the long term.
What are your thoughts on the curriculum in Borden-Henryville, and are there any changes you want to see?
Let's make sure our district is delivering the best and highest standards in education to our students. Whether a student will go directly to work, trade school and/or college after they graduate, I support preparing them to have an edge over their competition. Indiana Department of Education has provided us with 18 employability skills to foster and develop in our students over the span of K-12 education. I plan to work together with the other board members and leadership to ensure our curriculum supports graduating students who are highly competitive with their peers.
