🚒 VEHICLE FIRE – BARTLE K**B ROAD 🔥

Yesterday at approximately 3:49 PM, Monroe Township Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Bartle K**b Road and Hilltop Road for a reported vehicle fire.

The initial caller reported a diesel pickup truck and trailer on fire near the top of the hill. A Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived shortly afterward and reported the vehicle was fully involved, with ammunition inside the vehicle discharging as a result of the fire.

While responding, Engine 24 reported a large column of heavy smoke visible from as far away as the State Road 160/I-65 overpass. Based on those conditions, TTFD was requested for assistance, and Engine 32 responded.

Engine 23, Tanker 21, and Tanker 22 also responded. Tankers 21 and 22 were later cancelled after it was determined they would not be needed.

Crews from Monroe Township Engine 24, Engine 23, and Tri-Township Engine 32 worked together to bring the fire under control and extinguish the remaining fire and hot spots.

Firefighters were also working in extreme heat conditions, during what has been the hottest stretch of weather our area has experienced so far this year. High temperatures add another level of difficulty and risk to fireground operations, especially while crews are working in full protective gear.

We appreciate the assistance of Tri-Township Fire & Rescue and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department and, as always, the cooperation of motorists and residents while crews were operating in the area.

🎓🚒 CONGRATULATIONS, CHIEF! 🚒🎓

Monroe Township Fire Dept would like to congratulate Fire Chief William “Bill” Maloney on completing the Fire Chief Executive Training Program through the Indiana Fire & Public Safety Academy.

Chief Maloney spent the past week continuing his education and professional development, focusing on the leadership, management, and organizational responsibilities that come with serving as a fire chief.

Leading a fire department involves much more than responding to emergencies. It requires planning for the future, managing resources, developing personnel, making difficult decisions, and ensuring that our department remains prepared to meet the changing needs of our community.

We appreciate Chief Maloney’s continued dedication to improving himself as a leader and investing the time necessary to better serve our department and the citizens of Monroe Township.

Congratulations, Chief, and thank you for your commitment to our department and community! 👏🚒
