There is a person calling stating they are Captain Anderson with the Sheriffs Office and that he is calling in reference to a subpoena being ignored in a murder investigation and he needs to meet with a person at a different address. This is a scam. There is no Captain Anderson at the Deaf Smith County Sheriff‘s office. If somebody calls you and you feel it is questionable. Please check with the agency that they are claiming to be from to see if there is an officer there because we will not call you about a subpoena. We will knock on your door.

Honoring a Fallen Hero: Trooper Matthew Dewayne Myrick

Twenty years ago today, on January 20, 2006, Trooper Myrick tragically lost his life in the line of duty, when he lost control of his patrol unit while responding to an accident.

Trooper Myrick joined DPS in 2003 and was stationed in Hereford at the time of his death.

Today and every day, we honor his service and his sacrifice while protecting the people of Texas. He was a hero who is gone but not forgotten.

UPDATE:
the scam callers are calling around and claiming to be Sgt Prisk and trying to keep people in the phone with threats. The sheriff’s office does not call and try to get you to go get gift cards. This is a scam and not from the sheriff’s office please be careful.
