This past Friday, we had the privilege of hosting an unveiling ceremony in honor of Senator James L. Seward and his tremendous contributions to Herkimer County and the Mohawk Valley. It was a special morning dedicated to recognizing his decades of public service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our region.

We are incredibly thankful to the elected officials, community leaders, family members, friends, and residents who joined us to celebrate Senator Seward’s legacy and the lasting impact he has made on countless communities throughout New York State.

A special thank you to Valley Signs that designed and created the memorial sign for helping us establish a meaningful and lasting tribute in Senator Seward’s honor.

See a few photos below of the event.

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the heroes who gave their lives in service to our country.

Herkimer County has a rich history of dairy farming, and we’ve been taking a closer look at that legacy through a growing collection of vintage milk bottles.

Each bottle tells a small piece of the story of local creameries, family farms, and the everyday life that once filled our region.

We’re continuing to build the collection and are looking to add more. If you have vintage Herkimer County milk bottles or know someone who does, we’d love to connect and preserve a bit more of our local history!

Last week’s 5th Annual Mohawk Valley Brownfields Developer Summit, hosted at Herkimer County Community College, brought together partners from across the region for two days of collaboration, learning, and forward momentum.

The Herkimer County IDA was proud to participate alongside regional economic development organizations in supporting this year’s summit—helping to create space for meaningful conversations around brownfield redevelopment, site readiness, and long-term revitalization throughout the Mohawk Valley.

Across the event, attendees engaged in panels, site discussions, and networking opportunities focused on turning underutilized properties into opportunities for investment and community growth. We were also grateful to join in discussions with partners including the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Events like this highlight the strength of regional collaboration and the shared commitment to moving projects forward across county lines. The Mohawk Valley continues to demonstrate what’s possible when partners come together with a common purpose.

The HCIDA is proud to have been part of this effort and looks forward to continuing to support redevelopment and economic growth across our region. Stay tuned for next year's summit!

As the Microenterprise Grant Program comes to a close, the Herkimer County IDA is proud to have supported eight small businesses across the county, awarding a total of $300,000 in funding.

Designed for microenterprises with five or fewer employees, the program enabled businesses in key industries to invest in equipment, inventory, marketing, and daily operations—supporting long-term growth and strengthening our local economy.

We were proud to celebrate this milestone alongside County legislators and grant recipients at the program’s public hearing, and we thank them for their continued support of Herkimer County’s small business community. We also want to recognize and thank Mohawk Valley Small Business Development Center for their partnership and continued support of small businesses across Herkimer County. Your work plays an important role in strengthening our local business community through programs like the Microenterprise Grant.

See the photos below featuring the eight businesses supported through this program, along with a moment captured with County legislators.
