I would like to thank Trent Lampkin with Lampkin Masonry for installing Det. Sgt. Mason Griffith’s plaque onto the building yesterday. It will be a reminder to those visiting the department and officers the ultimate sacrifice our brother Mason gave on March 12th, 2023.

You are missed Mason and will be forever remembered.

Today was filled with emotions as the Honorable Judge Craig Hellmann formally sentenced Kenneth Lee Simpson to death for the shooting that took the life of Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith on March 12th, 2023 and injuring Officer Adam Sullentrup who sustained a traumatic head injury that has forever changed his life.

The night of March 12th, 2023 forever changed the lives of two families, a department and a community. Something no one could have imagined would take place in our small community. One senseless act damaged many lives. The Hermann Police Department will forever remember the life of Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith and the ultimate sacrifice he gave serving the community of Hermann. We thank Officer Adam Sullentrup whose life was forever changed. Adam is a true inspiration to us all and has inspired so many these past three years.

I would like to thank the Missouri Attorney General’s Office for all their hard work and professionalism on this case. The Honorable Judge Craig Hellmann and his staff. Franklin County Sheriff Steve Pelton and members of the Franklin County Sheriff Office. Gasconade County Sheriff Scott Eiler and his department for their support. Several fellow officers who have been there since that tragic night. And a special thank you to the community of Hermann and the tremendous support for our department.

As difficult as today was in so many ways, it was also a time to pass on something special to the son of Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith. With the assistance of Sheriff Scott Eiler, Officer Adam Sullentrup and several fellow officers who were close to Mason, I was able to present Mason’s son Karson with his father’s handcuffs. Karson is a spiting image of his father and wants to serve as his father did. One day Karson will be able to use his father’s handcuffs in remembrance of his amazing father and all his stood for.

Time heals all wounds. We continue to honor both Mason and Adam each day and the sacrifice they gave to the community of Hermann. We love you guys and thank you for your service.

Today on May 8th, the City of Hermann recognizes today as #508 day to recognize Officer Adam Sullentrup, DSN 508.

The citizens of Hermann and the Hermann Police Department will be forever grateful for your service and dedication to the community. On March 12th, 2023 you faced evil that night, but evil did not prevail. Your strength and courage are inspiring to us all and we are proud of all that you have accomplished and will continue to do in your life. We are all Adam Strong!

Today we celebrate you Adam and love you brother.

Today on May 3rd the City of Hermann and the Hermann Police Department remember Detective Sergeant Mason Griffith DSN # 503 who gave the ultimate sacrifice on March 12th, 2023.

Your fellow officers and the citizens of Hermann miss you and will never forget all that you meant for this community. You can never be replaced brother. You will be forever remembered Mason and all that you stood for.

The Herman Police Department extends it’s condolences to the City of New Florence and the New Florence Police Department in the passing of their Chief of Police Tyler Beasley. Chief Beasley was also a former officer with the New Haven Police Department.

On April 23, 2026, members of LANEG and the Hermann Police Department conducted a drug-related consent search of a residence in Hermann, Missouri. During the consent search, contact was made with one (1) white female and one (1) white male. As a result of the search, 12.7 grams of methamphetamine, and multiple glass smoking devices, which field-tested positive for methamphetamine, were located and seized.
The white female was taken into custody and transported to the Franklin County Adult Detention Facility and placed on a 24 hour hold pending warrant application.

I would like to thank the members of LANEG and officers with the Hermann Police Department during this investigation and ridding our community of these dangerous narcotics.
