Visit a significant part of German-American history – and early Missouri settlement – at Deutschheim State Historic Site. Stroll through the restored 1840s and 1850s buildings and explore how German-Americans settled the Hermann area and developed the basis for a Missouri wine industry. In addition to its scheduled tours (available at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.) on this Maifest Saturday, May 16, Deutschheim will offer a free viewing of the exhibit, “What Wondrous Life: The World of George Husmann,” located in the parlor of the 1883 Feldman House, 109 W. Second in Hermann. Husmann arrived in Hermann in 1838, as a boy of 10, and matured into America’s premier 19th century expert on grapes and wine, also publishing the world’s first monthly publication devoted to those topics. he is further recognized as the savior of the French wine industry.
