The Hermiston Youth Advisory Council helped make a lasting impact during the I Love My City event by planting 15 new trees in Belt Park to kick off the Belt Park Arboretum Plan.
As part of their work learning how city government serves the community, the Youth Advisory Council chose to get hands-on by contributing to a project that will benefit Hermiston for years to come.
This planting is part of the Hermiston Community Forest Project, funded through a USDA Forest Service grant, and helps build a healthier, more diverse tree canopy in one of Hermiston’s most historic parks.
Tree species planted include Katsura Tree, Bald Cypress, Ivory Silk Tree Lilac, Blue Weeping Alaskan Cedar, Autumn Blaze Maple, Redpoint Red Maple, Maidenhair Tree, Sawleaf Zelkova, Tatarian Maple, Princeton Elm, Chinese Elm/Frontier Elm, Thornless Honey Locust, and Kentucky Coffee Tree.
Thank you to the Hermiston Youth Advisory Council for investing your time, energy, and leadership into our parks and community.
