This week 5 clients participated in a cooking class where they were able to learn a variety of skills from peeling and slicing to cooking in the crockpot, microwave, roaster and air fryer. They made crockpot pumpkin cake, apple pies, stuffing and cranberry salsa.

They learned how to use different tools to help promote healthy, eating, and safe cooking. For example, with the apple pie our clients used an automated electric apple peeler. 1 person sliced the apples and another put the pies together. Many tools that a visually impaired client would use in the kitchen are often something that would be utilized by others with no thought behind it, we utilize these tools to make sure they were being safe and efficient in the kitchen.

On Tuesday, 30 clients from several counties all gathered for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, enjoying many of the items prepared during the cooking class.
