📣 Public Service Announcement — Hickory County Taxpayers

As we enter the final weeks of December, a reminder that your property taxes are due by December 31st to avoid penalties and interest.

If you plan to mail your tax payment through the USPS, please keep these important details in mind:

📬 Mailing Your Payment

Dropping your envelope in any mailbox — including blue boxes or personal mailboxes, will NOT receive a postmark at that location.
These envelopes are transported to the Regional Distribution Center and that is where they will finally be postmarked.

📅 Why This Matters

By Missouri law, our office must use the official postmarked date on the envelope to determine whether your payment was mailed on time.
If the facility postmarks it after December 31, penalties and interest will be applied—even if you dropped it in a local box earlier.

🏤 If You Use Your Local Post Office protect yourself:

Take your payment inside the post office.
Ask the clerk to hand-stamp your envelope with the red round date stamp.
You must request it.

This stamp is your proof that the payment was mailed on time.

Thank you for helping us ensure your payment is processed correctly and without penalties.

***If you are in Hermitage save a stamp and use our drop box that is located by the front door. We check it daily.

Great news!!! Just saw this from the Hermitage License office: We have an opening date, Wednesday January 7 !!! We can’t wait to see everyone!!

12/10/2025

***ATTENTION** There are only 12 days left to pay in person. The Courthouse will be closed December 24th-25th & 26th for Christmas. Please don't wait until the last few days to pay because you never know what the weather will bring or you may forget.

All your payment options are located on the back of your bill. We DO NOT take payments over the phone in our office.

If you plan to mail your payment, it must be postmarked by 12/31/25. DO NOT just drop in a mail box on the 31st as it may not get postmarked until January. If mailing on the 31st go inside and have them postmark your envelope at the counter.

If you plan online, remember thousands of people across the state are trying to pay at the same time so sometimes the system is slow and it make take some time. We are not responsible if you wait until that last minute and can not get your payment processed.

We also have a drop box located by the front door of the Court House. You can drop off your payment 24/7 and we check it daily.

If you bought or sold Real Estate in 2025 and you are unsure who is supposed to get the bill, contact your title company and they can tell you who is responsible for the bill.

If you applied for the senior tax credit, You still have to pay your bill in full. Your credit for 2025 is 0.00. You must reapply each year between January and June. You should start seeing a credit on your 2026 tax bill.

We are half way through tax season!! Here are some points to consider:

🌲 Everyone should have received their bills by now!
If you haven't call our office.

We also have a Dropbox by the front door of the courthouse.

🌲Buy or sell your home late in the year? Please call to double check if your real estate taxes are paid. Contact your closing company if you don’t know who should pay them.
