Hernando Heritage Council The Hernando Heritage Council is a division of the Citrus County Historical Society The original schoolhouse was built by the original founding families.

The Historic Hernando School has been in existance since the early 1800's in one form or another. But, in the late 30's, the town decided it WPA architect, Henry Taylor, was approved. Among his famous structures is the Vinoy Hotel in St Petersburg, FL. The Hisotirc Hernando School exhibits this same level of craftsmanship and quality. me the local gathering place and centerpiece of the town. Though Hernando was the last town in Citrus County to get a red brick school, it was one of the first to have an integrated one.

During the great depression in the 1930s, some companies began to pack their flour and grain in colorful fabrics because it came to be known that families were using the bags to make clothes.

For nearly 30 years, people could order a piece of the American dream through the mail.
A buyer could leaf through a Sears, Roebuck and Co. catalog, choose a house and mail in the order. In time, a railroad boxcar would chug into town, carrying a ready-to-assemble house — complete with nails and a 75-page instruction book.
Most of the house kits came in a single box car. The model, named the Magnolia, sold between 1918 and 1922.
