The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office will host a Drug Take Back event tomorrow, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hernando Kroger (2380 Mt Pleasant Rd). Bring your old, unwanted, or expired medications for safe disposal!

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will host its National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24 at more than 4,400 locations nationwide.

We will conduct a drug take back tomorrow at the Hernando Kroger from 10a-2p. You can dispose of old, unwanted or expired medications.

There’s more than one path to a successful career.

Students are getting a hands-on look at those paths and picturing what’s possible after graduation at the Bridging the Gap: DeSoto County Career Expo at the Landers Center.

The two-day event brings together all DeSoto County high school 10th graders to explore careers, meet local employers and learn what it takes to get started.

Supervisor Mark Gardner helped cut the ribbon this morning to kick things off.

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors is proud to support the expo and help students see a future right here at home.

We may be in the South, but Mother Nature doesn't always remember that!

DeSoto County Supervisors got a firsthand look at the County's newest snowplow today. It's the third new dump truck equipped with a snowplow to arrive, and two more dump trucks designed to accommodate plows are on order.

And that's just part of the County's winter weather equipment. Road crews also have approximately 30 other pieces of equipment, including tractors with blades and trucks equipped to spread salt and sand.m

We've learned that Southern winters can bring some serious surprises. While we don't know what Mother Nature has planned for this winter, the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors is continuing to invest in equipment to help road crews prepare and respond to snow and ice on county roads.

Here's hoping we won't need them anytime soon!

Congratulations to Russell Jordan on his appointment as DeSoto County Court Judge!

Governor Tate Reeves announced Jordan’s appointment this morning. Jordan then appeared before the Board of Supervisors to resign as County Prosecutor, a role he has filled on an interim basis since Jim Holland retired in June.

Jordan’s appointment takes effect November 1. He will succeed Judge Craig Treadway, who was appointed to Circuit Court.

The Board thanks Jordan for his service as County Prosecutor and wishes him well as he continues serving the people of DeSoto County.

DeSoto County went pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 🎀

During Monday’s Board of Supervisors Meeting, County Supervisors, employees, and residents came together to raise awareness, honor loved ones impacted by breast cancer, and show support for those currently fighting the disease.

This October, we stand together to recognize the importance of early detection, support those affected, and continue the fight against breast cancer. 💕
