The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors honored Jim Flanagan today for his extraordinary leadership and lasting impact on our community as he enters retirement after nearly 40 years of service as President and CEO of the DeSoto County Economic Development Council.

During the meeting, Board President Jessie Medlin read a resolution recognizing Mr. Flanagan’s decades of dedication to strengthening DeSoto County’s economy, recruiting major employers, creating jobs, and helping position our county as a leader in growth and opportunity throughout Mississippi and the Mid-South.

His leadership, professionalism, and commitment to collaboration have helped shape the success and future of DeSoto County for generations to come.

We thank Jim Flanagan for his many years of distinguished service and wish him all the best in this well-earned retirement as he spends more time with family and grandchildren.

This morning, the Hernando High School Lady Tigers Softball Team was recognized by the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors for winning the 2026 MHSAA Class 7A State Championship! 🥎

The Lady Tigers defeated Ocean Springs 9-7 in the decisive third game of the championship series on May 15, finishing the season with an outstanding 32-5 record and earning the title of Mississippi's top Class 7A softball team.

The team showed tremendous perseverance and heart, rallying late in the game with a five-run sixth inning to claim the title. Under the leadership of Head Coach Nicki Whitten, the Lady Tigers exemplified teamwork, discipline, and dedication all season long.

This championship is a testament to years of hard work, sacrifice, and commitment. The Lady Tigers have brought tremendous pride to Hernando High School, the City of Hernando, and all of DeSoto County while inspiring the next generation of student-athletes.

A special congratulations to Championship MVP Kaitlyn Gentry, the coaching staff, and all of those who supported the team throughout this remarkable journey.

Congratulations, Lady Tigers! Thank you for representing DeSoto County with excellence, determination, and pride.
