The Herrin Fire Department consists of a Full-time Fire Chief, three full-time Captains, three full-time Lieutenants, nine full-time Firefighters and 2 paid-on-call Firefighters. The full-time personnel belong to the International Association of Firefighters Union and are Local 3251. There are three shifts that work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. There is a Captain, Lieutenant, and three Firefighte
rs assigned to each shift. The HFD is an ISO Class 3 department beginning February 1, 2018. The HFD is an all-hazards department. Services provided but not limited to: fire suppression, hazardous materials, technical rescue, dive/water rescue and recovery, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drone), Extrication at motor vehicle accidents, Emergency Medical Responder. The HFD is part of the State of Illinois Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, Division 45. HFD houses 2 divisional assets: Western Shelter and Marine 45. Members are part of the following MABAS teams: Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue and Dive/Sonar.
