Red Top Road is now open! Thank you to those who were patient. To understand the process, when a tree is on the power company's neutral line the Township Public Works cannot touch the live wires. Over the weekend, the tree settled and came off the power company's lines and we were then able to remove it this morning from the communication lines and off the roadway. PPL has been very busy with the tornado hit areas and our ticket was not a priority. Again, thank you for your patience and thank you Public Works for getting it done!

SPECIAL NOTICE TO DERRY AND SOUTH HANOVER RESIDENTS:

Dauphin County Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program
1451 Peters Mountain Road, Dauphin, PA 17018 717-921-8100

Weather permitting; the Dauphin County Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program staff will apply treatments the evening of Monday August 17th, in portions of Derry Township and South Hanover Township. Due to unforeseen circumstances or weather-related cancellation of the spray, a make-up spray will be held on Wednesday August 19th.

Samples taken by the Dauphin County Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program in the area have shown high adult mosquito populations that can carry the West Nile Virus.

Monday’s treatments will be administered using truck-mounted equipment to spray areas near Clearwater Road in Derry Township and South Hanover Street in South Hanover Township. Any residents that have any questions concerning the spray event should contact the Dauphin County Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program Coordinator at 717-921-8100 by 4:00 pm Monday August 17th.

The Dauphin County Conservation Districts spray equipment dispenses AquaDuet at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. The active ingredients for this product are Prallethrin and Sumithrin. The pesticide application license number for this applicator is BU6665.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all residents in areas where virus activity has been identified are at risk of getting West Nile encephalitis.

Certain mosquito species carry the West Nile virus, which, when transmitted to people, can cause West Nile encephalitis, an infection that can result in an inflammation of the brain.

Township of South Hanover Board of Supervisors Statement:

During a recent community meeting in Hummelstown by a group not affiliated with the township and reported by local media, a presenter claimed that "Right now the Ordinance, as of Friday, has been sent back to the Planning Commission." That claim is not an accurate characterization of what the Township said.
The Township's statement released on Friday neither stated nor implied that the Ordinance had been returned to the Planning Commission. Rather, it announced that the Township and HCI had agreed to pause the current process.
The purpose of that pause is to provide additional opportunities for public input and discussion, both through formal channels and informal community engagement. Any suggestion that a decision has already been made on contents of the Ordinance and/or referral of the Ordinance to the Planning Commission is not supported by the Township's published statement.
Unfortunately, assumption and speculation can create unnecessary confusion for residents who are trying to follow this process. We believe it is important to correct the record and ensure that public discussions are based on facts rather than assumptions.
The Township remains committed to transparency and resident participation and will continue to communicate any future actions through official channels. As this process continues, we encourage residents to rely on official Township communications and officially released information rather than speculation or secondhand characterizations.
Furthermore, if there are questions about the process or the information being released, those questions should be directed to an official from the township.
Accurate information is essential to meaningful public participation, and we remain committed to providing timely updates as discussions move forward.

Special Note: The Public Hearing at 6 p.m. on August 11- cancelled.
The Board Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on August 11-scheduled as planned.
The Zoning Hearing Board on August 17 -cancelled.

WHAT IS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT?

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August. Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
