At 17:34 hours on May 22, Hertford Fire Department (HFD), in conjunction with Winfall and Bethel Fire Departments, responded to a reported structure fire at Capt Bob's. Upon arrival at 17:39 hours, fire personnel encountered a BBQ pit cook house fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading into the main restaurant building. Approximately 50 firefighters battled the fire while contending with a 20 mph wind. Crews searched for and extinguished hot spots, completing their operations with the final unit clearing the scene at 2148 hours. HFD extends its sympathies to the Capt Bob's restaurant family, acknowledging their significance within the local community. The department also appreciates the support provided by Bethel, Winfall, Inter County, Perquimans Emergency Services, and Perquimans Sheriff's Office during this incident.

Shout out to McDonald's of Hertford for their incredible generosity tonight! Thank you for providing free sandwiches to the first responders who had been on scene for nearly three hours. 🚓🚑🚒

If you experienced a delay while picking up your food, please know it was because they quickly shifted gears to make sure our responders were taken care of. ❤️

We said our final goodbye to retired Assistant Chief Parker Newbern today. We are grateful for everyone's support and ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

We are saddened to announce the loss of retired Assistant Chief Parker Newbern, who dedicated over 30 years of service to our department in various leadership capacities. Following his retirement, he remained actively engaged in our fundraising efforts. His passing will be deeply felt by all. Please extend your thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones.
