This morning at 8:43 Hewitt Fire was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a house on Mclamore Cir. Our first unit arrived at 8:45 and found heavy smoke and fire Invloving the back of the house. Our crews quickly attacked the fire knocking It down before starting to search for possible victims. No one was home at the time of the fire however 5 family pets were lost due to the heavy smoke conditions and two residents were displaced. The residence did sustain major fire and smoke damage. Waco FD was called for mutual aid and assisted with searching the property and extinguishing other areas of fire. After the extinguishment of the fire, crews remained on scene to overhall and assist with investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No fire personnel were injured during the fire. The last units cleared at 2:52.

We are testing our emergency alerting early this month. We will be participating in a county wide emergency alerting drill on Thursday morning at 10 instead of Friday. You may also receive additional city, county and state emergency alerting through your cell phones. These are all just tests. For more information about emergency alerting and to sign up, please go to our website or the McLennan County OEM web site.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) will conduct a Statewide Public Warning System Drill on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM CST, and Waco / McLennan County will be participating in the exercise.

As part of this drill, Waco / McLennan County and our local partners will be testing several public warning systems used to alert the community during emergencies. Residents may receive test messages through local emergency notification systems and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on mobile phones. Outdoor warning sirens will also be tested in conjunction with our local partners.

This exercise helps confirm that our warning systems are working properly and that alerts can be delivered quickly and effectively during real emergencies.

Please remember: this is only a test. No action is required.

Thank you for your support as we work together to keep Waco and McLennan County prepared.
