Mutual Aid Working House Fire-

On Memorial Day, Monday May 25th, at approx. 1215 hrs hours, the Hewlett Fire Department was alerted for a mutual aid working truck to the Inwood Fire Department (). Ladder 303 was on the road within a minute and arrived as the 3rd due ladder. The crew was tasked with opening up the inside walls and exterior siding the check for fire extension. Units were back in service within an hour.

National EMS Week 2026!

Thank you to the dedicated EMTs and Paramedics of the Hewlett Fire Department and Fire-Medic Co. 309 for all you do for the department and the community. The members of 309 respond throughout the Hewlett Fire District as well as the protection area of North Woodmere providing Basic and Advanced Life Support. The company is led by Captain Gary Kotlyar and Lieutenant Kristin Greco. Please take a moment to thank them for all they do!

Department members trained on vehicle extrications this morning. Basic concepts of door pops/removals, post removals, dash displacements, and how to remove a trapped driver through the passenger side of the vehicle by removing the seats and center console were all reviewed.

Mutual Aid Working House Fire-

On Monday, May 4th, at approximately 1420 hrs, the Hewlett Fire Department was alerted to respond mutual aid to the for a working house fire. Due to our Annual Golf Outing taking place, Engine 302 was standing by and was on the road within seconds. Ambulance 309 was also requested to the scene and Rescue 306 responded with additional manpower. Engine 302 arrived as the first mutual aid unit on scene and stretched an attack line to the 2-side of the house to help extinguish the wind driven fire. Units operated on scene for 1 hour before returning to service.

Engine Co. 5 arriving on scene of a brush fire on Whitehall Drive in the North Woodmere section of the district.

The call was originally received as smoke coming from a house. Chief Velotti [3010] arrived on scene with the engine following quickly behind and determined the cause to be a homeowner burning wood in the rear yard.

Mutual Aid Working Fire-

On Sunday, April 5th, at approximately 5:30 pm, the Hewlett Fire Department was alerted for a dual response engine to a building fire in Valley Stream. Hewlett Chief of Department Velotti [3010] was first on scene and advised incoming units of smoke showing. Chief Velotti then transmitted the signal 10 for fire on the first floor of a 2 story mixed occupancy. Engine 304 responded and laid in from a hydrant on Rockaway Avenue. The crew stretched an attack line which was put into operation for fire extension into the exposure and 2nd floor. Hewlett units were on scene for an hour and a half before returning to service.

Working House Fire-

On Tuesday, March 31st, at approximately 1225 hrs, the Hewlett Fire Department was alerted for a house fire at the intersection of East End and Saddle Ridge Road. Engine 305 and Assistant Chief Legrow [3011] were quickly on the road from a previous alarm and were updated that multiple calls were being received. Chief 3501 was on scene and recommended a signal 10. Chief Legrow transmitted the working fire for heavy fire in a 2 story private dwelling. Engine 305 arrived on scene within 2 mins and quickly put 1 line into operation. Crews made an aggressive interior attack while the crews from Ladder 3252 and Ladder 313 searched for a possible trapped occupant on the 2nd floor. In total, 4 lines were stretched and put into operation off of Engine 305 and Woodmere Engine 354. Searches throughout the dwelling were negative and units operated on scene for approximately an hour and a half before returning to service. Engine 305 and Rescue 306 arrived on scene as the first due engine/acting truck.
