The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds us that the Click it or Ticket Campaign is in effect.

• High-Visibility Enforcement Campaign

Protect what matters most. A seat belt saves you from more than a ticket.

One of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make is to buckle up. Many Americans understand the lifesaving value of the seat belt – the national use rate was at 91.2% in 2024. Seat belt use in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 14,955 lives in 2017. Understand the potentially fatal consequences of not wearing a seat belt and learn what you can do to make sure you and your family are properly buckled up every time.

Please be safe this holiday weekend.

"Take a look at these little faces—these are the childhood photos of the brave men and women who now wear the badge for the Hiawatha Police Department.

Decades ago, officers of the past patrolled our streets, answered calls in the middle of the night, and stood watch so these kids could grow up in safe neighborhoods, ride bikes without fear, play outside until the streetlights came on, and dream big enough to one day become protectors themselves.

Today, our officers and staff stand in that same line of duty for and with our community. They’re here for the same reason: to shield us all as well as today’s kids, so they can grow up safe, strong, and ready to step up when it’s their turn to make a difference in the world.

Being an officer isn’t just a job—it’s a promise passed down through generations. Thank you to every officer who came before us, and to every one serving right now.

Hiawatha Police Department – protecting our community and the kids of today so they can someday protect our future. 💙👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

The Hiawatha Police Department is deeply grateful for the $1,000 grant awarded through the Walmart Spark Good Local Grants program. and #342 Walmart Hiawatha. This generous support will directly fund advanced digital forensic software for the Hiawatha Police Community Digital Safety Initiative.
This vital tool equips our officers to more effectively investigate and combat online crimes - including child exploitation, identity theft and cyber fraud that impact local families and businesses in NE Kansas. With faster evidence recovery, quicker case resolutions, and stronger protections for vulnerable residents, we'll better safeguard our community.
We truly appreciate Hiawatha Walmart #342 commitment to building safer, stronger neighborhoods. Thank you for sparking good right here in Hiawatha.
