⚡Electrical Improvements Pay Off⚡

During last night’s outage on HPU’s Feeder #4, HPU’s new Mahoning Substation allowed us to keep ~500 customers in service who in the past would have lost power.

Before the completion of this project, the entire feeder (if not the city) would have been impacted. Instead, new infrastructure gave crews the ability to isolate the outage and reduce its impact.

This is exactly the outcome expected when HPU invested in its Substation Modernization Projects. While no utility can prevent every outage, these improvements help reduce the number of customers affected, improve reliability, and support faster restoration when severe weather strikes.

Thank you to the crews who responded to last night's outage and to the community members who continue to support investments in Hibbing's utility infrastructure.

**6/10 Power Restored**

7:40 pm - Line & Turbine Room have successfully restored power to the impacted 1,500 customers of Feeder #4 as of 7:34 pm.

If you are still experiencing a service interruption, please contact us directly by reporting the outage through HPU's website or calling us at 218-262-7700.

7:20 pm - Line and Plant Crews are working to restore power to the 1,500 impacted customers west of 1st Ave. Estimated restoral time of ~1 hour.

6:50 pm - HPU crews have identified that Feeder #4 has tripped. Initial patrols indicate a likely cause is vegetation or a tree contacting a power line. Approximately 1,500 customers west of 1st Ave are affected.

Crews have also received reports of trees or vegetation on power lines near 1st Avenue and Bunker Road.

Line crews are actively patrolling the system and assessing damage.

6:10 pm - Hibbing Public Utilities is responding to reports of power outages and trees on lines as a result of inclement weather. The HPU Line Crew has been dispatched to respond to the outage.

If you are currently experiencing an outage, please report this information to our response team at https://hpuc.com/report-a-problem/

HPU will continue posting updates through this Facebook post and through the HPU website.
