Hibbing Public Utilities is launching a community survey to help guide the future of utility services and infrastructure investments in our community.

As part of HPU’s 2026 Strategic Planning effort, we want to hear directly from residents, businesses, and customers about what matters most. We need to hear about your priorities, needs, and concerns. All feedback is welcome and valued.

The survey takes 5-10 minutes to complete and will help inform long-term decisions being made about HPU’s reliability, rates, customer service, and future investments.

POWER OUTAGE NOTICE FOR 5/6/26
Our line crew is planning a brief outage that will start at approximately 8:00 a.m. The interruption to service is required so our crew can deenergize a transformer to work safely on it. The outage is expected to last 15-60 minutes.
The customer services in red will be affected during this outage.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

Water Meter Replacement Project Now Underway

Hibbing Public Utilities is beginning a community-wide water meter replacement project in partnership with our contractor, HydroCorp.

Letters have been sent directly to customers who will need to have this work performed. Customers must schedule an appointment with HyrdroCorp through www.watermeterinstall.com or by calling 800-315-4305 (option 1).

Appointments will require property owners to:
▶ Provide clear access to the water meter
▶ Ensure proper function of the water shut-off valve
▶ Have a person 18 years of age or older present for the replacement appointment
▶ Missed appointments will result in a rescheduling fee

Why did the pipe cross the road? To build a better water system for Hibbing.💧

Watch this time-lapse of slip-lining 800 feet of water main. Today’s work is another step to the rehabilitation of a 3.5-mile stretch of 30” water main that was once one of the most vulnerable parts of our system.

Due to its age and size, HPU’s 30” Supply Line experienced multiple breaks over the years, leading to water loss and service interruptions. HPU made replacing this line a top priority in its Water Main Capital Improvement Plan, and has been working steadily to replace it since 2024.

Using an innovative slip-lining method, crews installed a new 18” water main inside the existing pipe. This method of replacement reduced the cost, project time, and disruption to the community compared to traditional replacement methods.

This project strengthens reliability and helps ensure a more resilient water system for years to come.

🚧Notice of Temporary Road Closure 4/30🚧

As a continuation of an ongoing project in HPU’s Water Main Capital Improvement Plan, a second temporary road closure is required to complete the installation of underground piping.

Closure Location:
- E 39st St. at the intersection of 13th Ave. E / E Beltline

The intersection is expected to be closed for approximately half a day on Thursday April 30th, while crews position and install pipe across the roadway.13th Ave. E will remain passable. No formal detours will be posted; motorists will need to plan accordingly.

We appreciate your patience as this important work in completed to improve Hibbing’s Water System.

WHEN: April 24th, 2026

TIME: Outage will start at 12:30 pm

DURATION: Expected to last up to 2 hours

IMPACTED CUSTOMERS: Expected impact for 9 services of the 3800 Block of 3rd Ave W. These customers will be notified directly prior to work beginning.

❄️Snowy skies & bright futures!🌟

HPU had a fantastic afternoon connecting with students of the Engineering Academy at Hibbing Schools and Iron Range Engineering Program. Students participated in a panel discussion on utility industry careers and got an inside look at the operations of the Hibbing Renewable Energy Center.

A key topic of discussion that came up was the challenges of managing and modernizing legacy infrastructure while meeting the demands of today’s energy systems.

Thank you to the HHS and IRE staff who helped coordinate this event. HPU is glad to have the opportunity to participate in this educational experience and invest in the next generation of professionals.

**Holiday Office Closure Notice**

In observance of Good Friday, the offices of Hibbing Public Utilities will be closed on Friday, April 3rd, 2026.
