Dell'Arte International The auditorium also has a Barton pipe organ.

The Hibbing High School Theatre was modeled after the Capital Theatre in New York City. The ceiling is hand-molded and the chandeliers are made from cut glass, they were imported from Belgium and now priceless much like many of the other things at Hibbing High School. It is one of only two that still exist in the United States. The organ can play any orchestra instrument except the violin and has

1900 pipes . The Theatre has hosted many events and over the years including Broadway touring shows from all over the place and was a hot spot for visitors. The Hibbing High School itself is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Auditorium is the most famous part. Thank you to everyone in our community who went the extra mile to ensure our technical students will have a mentor and coach as Technical Director for the next two years. Our next show is Fall Musical 2026, Nov 19-21!

A Note from Hibbing Drama Boosters President, Angie Weaver

Today is the last day of school, and I have some BIG news to share with you!

Just a few weeks ago, we learned that the Technical Director position for our theatre program would no longer be funded by the school. We turned to our community for help.

And our community showed up.

Because of your generosity, we have officially raised enough funds to support the Technical Director position for at least the next two years.

Thank you.

This role is essential to every production. It is the person behind the lights, sound, sets, and countless technical details that bring a show to life. Without this position, our community and students simply would not have access to the quality theatre experiences we have come to expect and deserve.

We are especially grateful to Jan Baldwin, Lynn Heath, and an anonymous donor for their leadership support of this effort. We also want to thank every individual, business, family, alumni, and community member who made a contribution. Together, your generosity ensured this position will remain funded for the next two years and demonstrated just how much this community values student theatre and the arts.

We also want to thank everyone who supported the program this spring by attending Romeo and Juliet, purchasing flowers or stickers, donating during Minute to Give It, volunteering, sharing our posts, or cheering on our students from the audience. Every act of support helped strengthen this program and contributed to what we were able to accomplish together.

The school has let us know they do not anticipate funding this position for at least the next two years. Because of your support, our students can move forward knowing these opportunities will continue.

If you made a donation through Venmo and would like a tax-deductible receipt, please email us at [email protected].

Several community members have asked whether they can still donate now that this goal has been met. The answer is yes.

While the Technical Director position is now funded, the Booster Club will continue working to support theatre opportunities for students and program needs throughout the year. Donations can still be made through Venmo , or by stopping into Security State Bank and letting them know you’d like to donate to the Hibbing Drama Boosters.

Today is a moment to celebrate.

Funding the Technical Director position was an important step, but the Booster Club’s mission is to support and strengthen theatre opportunities for students throughout the year. Because of your generosity, we can now turn our attention toward the future and continue building a strong foundation for this program.

As we look ahead to next year, there are a few simple ways you can continue supporting student theatre and the arts in our community:

❤️ Like and follow our page.

📣 Share this post and help us celebrate what our community accomplished together.

🎭 Save the date for our Fall Musical and come out to support our students:
November 19–21

🤝 If you know of a business, grant opportunity, or community partner that may want to support student theatre, we’d love to connect.

Most of all, thank you.

A few weeks ago, we had a challenge in front of us. Today, because of this community, we have a solution.

That is something worth celebrating.

Thank you for believing in our students, our program, and the power of the arts in our community. 🎭❤️

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

HHS Drama tackles maybe Shakespeare's most universally known love story: ROMEO & JULIET!

May 7, 8, 9 at MN North College Theater

Shakespeare's tale of star-crossed lovers and warring families comes to Hibbing in this spring production by HHS Drama. In a world ruled by the cosmos, constellations, and the machinations of Fates, two young people, one human, one fae, come together despite their brawling clans. But after one fateful fight turns from tussle to deadly serious, the lovers must fight to save their young marriage from the forces trying to keep them apart. Are we free to choose who we love, or does Fate, working ever in the background, just let us believe that?

PUBLIC SHOWING OF HHS ONE ACT: ANTIGONE IN MUNICH

Monday, January 26th at 5:30pm at HHS Auditorium
Free admission, donations gratefully accepted.

HHS competition One Act team just finished second place at subsections with an adaptation of Claudia Haas' ANTIGONE IN MUNICH, a true re-telling of the life of Sophia Scholl, and young college student in Munich at the rise of Hitler's power. Along with her brother and their friends, they created the White Rose Society, a non-violent resistance group that created and distributed anti-Nazi leaflets around Germany. The regime was so threatened by a group of college students speaking the truth of the brutality of Hitler's wars, that they hunted them down, interrogated them, and executed them.

Sophie is an example of a person who so deeply lived her ideals, she was willing to die for them. But she died knowing that she defended the ideals of all she found beautiful about her home country of Germany. And as a devout Lutheran, she died knowing that in death, she could stand before herself, and her God, and know that when faced with evil, she did something.

Antigone is a Greek play, written by Sophocles, and the heroine Antigone asks this fundamental question:

"When the laws of man defy the Laws of God, what are we to do?"

What shall we do, indeed?
