Hibbing Fire Department Welcome to the Hibbing Fire Department page. We are a combination career/paid-on-call department consisting of 27 career and 19 paid-on-call members.

Our career members are also paramedics providing advanced life support to our region.

The Eastern Area Complex Incident Management Team, under the command of the Superior National Forest and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are aware that a medical emergency occurred on the July Lightning fires involving an individual assigned to the incident at approximately 10:40 am today, Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the vicinity of Ely, MN.

Fire personnel and emergency medical services responded. The patient was transported to a medical facility for treatment. After arriving at the hospital, the patient subsequently passed away. When additional information is available and confirmed, an update will be provided.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and fellow firefighting community.

Congratulations to Engineer Kurt Doree on his retirement from the HFD. Kurt served the City of Hibbing for 10 years and the City of Brainerd for 12 years. We wish him well as he starts his next chapter!

The Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office and Virginia Police are investigating this morning‘s fire at the Affordable Cleaners building in the 100 block of East Chestnut Street in Virginia. The fire was reported around 11:10 by a passerby. The fire was contained to the outside of the building with smoke and heat damage to the interior. No injuries were reported. The Virginia, Eveleth, Mountain Iron, and Hibbing fire departments responded to the fire.

Progress Update: After nearly 2 years of planning...and waiting, our new ladder truck is in production! The chassis is complete and the aerial is being mounted. We are still several months away from taking delivery but we are excited with the progress.

Hibbing, Chisholm, Keewatin, and Virginia firefighters were dispatched Saturday night to a house fire in Hibbing. The fire was reported around 10:00 p.m. in the 4200 block of 1st Avenue. A Hibbing Fire Department official told The Northland Fire Wire that upon arrival all occupants including six children had safely evacuated the house. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to an upstairs bedroom. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hibbing Fire Marshal's Office. The Hibbing Police Department assisted at the scene. The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
