After completing a real-world mission supporting the Kona Low storms, the 93rd Chemical Biological, Radiological Nuclear and Explosives Enhanced Response Force Package (CERF-P) transitioned directly to their biennial collective training exercise in Kalaeloa, reinforcing their commitment to being always ready, always there.

This exercise evaluated the readiness and response capabilities of the 93rd CERF-P, which includes command and control, mass casualty decontamination, search and extraction, joint communications, medical triage and treatment, and fatality search and recovery functions.

The Hawai‘i Air National Guard’s 154th Communication Squadron and 154th Force Support Squadron showcased their joint incident site communications capability and fatality search and recovery functions alongside Hawai‘i Army National Guard elements.

This collective training exercise enhances the 93rd CERF-P's primary mission to support local, state, and federal agencies in consequence management by providing critical capabilities to operate in contaminated environments.

Go CERF-P! ⚡🏋️

The 154th Regional Support Group with backing from the 154th Mission Support Group recently wrapped up the first iteration of Exercise Poʻokela, a multi-island event held across O’ahu, Kauai, and the Big Island. This exercise was used to bridge the distance between islands proving that they can operate as a singular, cohesive force.

Poʻokela focused on combat readiness during times of vulnerability due to unforeseen natural disasters. This event held training on Tactical Combat Casualty Care, Chemical Biological Radiological, Nuclear materials training, and hub and spoke communication using field-expedient antennas.

“My priority is combat readiness,” said Col. Mariko Boone, 154th RSG commander. “We ensure ex*****on by promoting that our people are pono—trained, ready, and resilient.”

Our Airmen sharpened their skills to ensure Hawaii’s defense remains unshakable. We stand ready to serve anytime. anywhere.

Since enlisting in the Hawaii Air National Guard in high school with his best friends to becoming the "King of Weaver Street"—Today we celebrate the promotion of Chief Master Sergeant Shawn Pangborn.

From turning wrenches in the engine shop to overseeing Quality Assurance for the Hawaii Air National Guard, Chief Pangborn has spent over 30 years embodying excellence.

"As I put on my final stripe, my promise to you all is that I will never forget where it came from... I finally made it. This stripe is for you, love you dad."

During his ceremony, he honored his first mentors and his family, reminding us all that a Chief is nothing without the Airmen they serve. Congratulations Chief! This one is for the legacy.

Under sunny skies and cool trade winds at Wheeler Army Airfield, the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 298th Air Defense Group gathered for a special two-in-one celebration honoring leadership, service, and the spirit of the Hawaii Guard ʻohana.

The ceremony began with the promotion of Lt. Col. Michael “Anvil” O’Donnell to the rank of Colonel, making him the Hawaii Air National Guard’s newest O-6. Moments later, Col. O’Donnell officially assumed command of the 298th Air Defense Group from Col. Diana Gregory during a traditional change of command ceremony surrounded by fellow Airmen, family, and friends.

Held on the slopes of the Waiʻanae Mountain Range, the ceremony brought together Airmen from across the Hawaii Air National Guard to celebrate both the accomplishments of outgoing leadership and the future of a unit that stands watch over the Pacific. The 298th ADG mission remains vital to the defense of the islands and region — detecting, monitoring, identifying, intercepting, and if necessary destroying airborne threats within the Hawaiian and Guam Air Defense Region.

With island breezes moving through the formation and the support of the Hawaii Guard community all around, the ceremony reflected the professionalism, pride, and tight-knit ʻohana culture that continue to define the 298th Air Defense Group.

🎉Celebrating the HIANG’s Newest Chief

Today, during a milestone moment for the Hawaii Air National Guard, we had the distinct honor of witnessing Senior Master Sgt. Steven-J K.C. Kau rise to the highest enlisted rank in the U.S. Air Force—Chief Master Sergeant.

The ceremony was held at the Pacific Air Force’s Courtyard of Heroes, where family, friends, and leadership gathered to witness this achievement. During the ceremony, Col. Hough promoted Kau and directed the publishing of the official order, marking a significant milestone earned through years of dedication and service.

As a Senior Enlisted Leader within the 201st Combat Operations Squadron, Chief Kau plays a critical role in the unit’s mission of providing command and control capabilities and integrating airpower into joint operations. In his new rank, he joins the top 1% of the enlisted force, responsible for guiding Airmen and shaping the future of the mission.

Chief Kau invited his wife, Tiari, his mother, Roxanne, and his sons to pin on his new rank, symbolizing the unwavering family support behind every Airman’s journey.

To conclude the ceremony, Chief Mandy Mahuka then presented the Chief’s Coin—a traveling tradition passed to the HIANG’s newest Chief Master Sergeant. In a traditional and deeply symbolic moment, Chief Master Sgt. Maryann “Mey” Martin, HIANG command chief, administered the Chief’s Charge, outlining the responsibilities of the rank.

Well done, Chief Kau—truly well deserved.

Hawaii and Philippines Air Forces unite for Exercise Cope Thunder 26-1

to the exciting events that happened earlier this month for Exercise Cope Thunder 26-1.

Cope Thunder 26-1 saw over 90 Airmen from the 199th Air Expeditionary Squadron—a mix of active-duty and Air National Guard—working seamlessly with our Philippine counterparts.

With more than 2,800 personnel working together, Cope Thunder 26-1 showed that partnerships are built through shared experience, trust and consistent effort, ensuring both nations remain ready to meet future challenges together.

The exchange strengthens interoperability and reinforces the longstanding partnership between U.S. and Philippine forces through shared training and operational collaboration.

“For the Hawaii Air National Guard, this partnership is especially meaningful. We just celebrated 25 years as state partners with the Philippines and look forward to the next 25 and beyond,” said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Phillip L. Mallory, Hawaii Air National Guard commander.

Success wasn't just found in the air; it was built by the maintainers, logistics teams, and fuel specialists ensuring every mission was a go. Interoperability at its finest!
