What Librarianship Looks Like Today 🙂

In order to continue her work amid ongoing construction noise on her end of the floor, Associate Dean of S.O.A.R. Commons, Dr. Staci Wilson, has temporarily relocated her workstation to a colleague’s office. This thoughtful adjustment reflects a consistent pattern of adaptability and resilience in her professional practice.

Dr. Wilson has previously navigated similarly challenging circumstances, including the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and a temporary staffing shortage last summer, always remaining focused on sustaining operations and supporting her team.

We are grateful to work alongside a leader who approaches challenges with flexibility, dedication, and a steady commitment to getting the job done.

What Librarianship Looks Like Today 🙂

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and hard work of CVCC Library Volunteer Karla Illanes. Karla plays an important role in keeping our library clean, organized, and welcoming to everyone who visits. She has a kind demeanor, a calm presence, and a willingness to help make a meaningful difference in our busy library's day-to-day operations. We truly appreciate her many contributions and the positive impact she has on our team and our patrons.

What Librarianship Looks Like Today 🙂

At the CVCC Library, Mason is often hard at work behind the scenes—cataloging books, managing acquisitions, and handling the many technical details that help keep our library running smoothly. Yet no matter how busy he may be, he is always willing to pause what he is doing to assist our library patrons with kindness and enthusiasm.

To help reassure students and visitors that they are always welcome to ask for assistance, Mason recently placed a sign outside his office door encouraging them to stop in whenever they need help. We are incredibly grateful for his dedication, positive spirit, and unwavering commitment to serving our campus community. The Library is truly fortunate to have such a thoughtful and hardworking colleague on our team!

What Librarianship Looks Like Today 🙂

In preparation for our nation’s semiquincentennial celebration, the CVCC Library is creating a special compilation video featuring 32 faculty and staff members, each reading one sentence from the Declaration of Independence. Earlier this week, Outreach and Instruction Librarian Anita McRary, Learning Support Assistant Noah Clarke, and CCR Administrative Assistant Iryna Baker recorded their portions of the project.

Our Library Team truly believes that learning is a lifelong and meaningful experience. Milestones such as America’s 250th birthday provide a valuable opportunity to reflect thoughtfully on our nation’s history while also taking part in a historic moment ourselves. We are grateful to celebrate this occasion through collaboration, learning, and community engagement.

What Librarianship Looks Like Today 🙂

We’ve recently been experiencing some issues with our front door alarm system, and while our maintenance team works to resolve the problem, our Library and Student Support Specialist, Mason Herman, jokingly suggested that unplugging the alarm might do the trick (rest assured, he did not!).

We’re grateful for team members like Mason who help keep spirits high and laughter flowing, even during minor inconveniences. Sometimes it really is the quiet ones you have to watch!

What Librarianship Looks Like Today 🙂

Earlier today, the Library Team gathered for a project planning meeting to prepare for the upcoming academic year, thoughtfully mapping out priorities and initiatives to ensure we continue meeting the needs of our patrons and supporting the day-to-day operations of the library.

We are truly grateful for such a dedicated and collaborative team whose hard work and shared commitment help make our library an exceptional place for our campus community.

What Librarianship Looks Like Today 🙂

Few things make librarians happier than a surprise visit from a former student. Although he is now pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Lenoir-Rhyne University, Linkin Booth still feels at home in the CVCC Library — and we believe that says something special about our community.

Many people may not realize that, in addition to serving as an academic library for our students, the CVCC Library also serves as a community library. We are always delighted when former students return for research assistance, reading materials, or simply the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces.

It is a privilege to remain part of our students’ journeys long after they leave our campus, and we are grateful whenever they return to visit.
