Celebrating Shirley – 20 Years of Heart, Hustle, & Habitat! 🛠️

After 20 incredible years of service, our beloved volunteer Shirley is hanging up her apron and starting a new chapter. And what a chapter it has been!

Shirley has been the steady heartbeat of our ReStore Catawba Valley's back processing area for nearly two decades. When we asked her what she loved most, she said it best: "We all are a team." She loved the crew out front, the crew in the back, and the camaraderie that made every shift special.

Even as her health made things tougher, she kept showing up as long as she could—finding joy in the little things. She shared with us: "Most of my house is decorated with items from the ReStore". Thank you for molding our ReStore with your hard work and for pouring 20 years of love into building homes for our community. You will be deeply missed, Shirley! 💙

🩵🏠 Welcome home, Anya! 🏠🩵

After a successful closing on June 26th, Anya walked into her new home to find Habitat staff waiting to welcome her, along with the furniture donated by Wesley Hall, Inc., that she so thoughtfully designed, and delicious food from North Hickory Market. Anya will now experience the life-changing impact of homeownership and the security of having a solid foundation on which her family's future can rest.

After the loss of her husband, handling repairs became more difficult for Peggy. Tasks that were once manageable slowly turned into overwhelming challenges, especially as her health began to shift. Still, she remained positive, full of warmth, and deeply grateful for the life and family around her.

What started as a request for help with mobility repairs turned into a full effort to restore safety and peace of mind. Thanks in part to funding provided by Catawba County United Way, the Habitat Catawba Repairs team was able to address electrical safety concerns, gutter repairs, siding repairs, door issues, and install a brand new access ramp.

Now, she can welcome her family with confidence, knowing her home better supports her independence. While she may not be able to do everything she once did, she continues to greet each day with gratitude and thanks.

Thank you to all who attended our Rock the Block on Saturday, May 30th! We had an amazing outpouring of community support as we performed groundbreaking ceremonies for Kenia and Mike, and a home dedication ceremony for Anya!

A special thank you to Zack Taylor, President of Wesley Hall, Inc., for taking the time to speak during the event. We appreciate the inspiring support from Zack, Eddie Deal, and all of the employees at Wesley Hall, who came together to champion our mission as a Home Sponsor.

A Rock the Block celebration brings together family and community, to celebrate the journey of soon to be Habitat homebuyers through Dedication and Groundbreaking Ceremonies. This Saturday, we will dedicate the home of Anya as she prepares to receive her keys as a first time homeowner and break ground on the homes of Mike and Kenia as they begin building their dream.
