Building Partnerships - the Catawba County United Way recently had a visit from Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.). Their intent is to create a safer environment for abused children in conjunction with local and state officials along with other nonprofits. The United Way looks forward to working with B.A.C.A in the future.

Congratulations to the 2026 Giving From the Heart Volunteer Nominees and category winners.

On Wednesday, the Catawba County United Way (CCUW) hosted the annual Giving From the Heart (GFH) Volunteer Awards at Conover Station to recognize and thank some of the most invaluable members of every nonprofit in the county.

This year’s group of 31 nominees was equally amazing as in the past with individuals who have donated their time for decades, to groups who never say no when presented a task, to youth who are setting a new standard for community outreach.

And once again, the winner of each nomination category received $500 from Piedmont Natural Gas to be paid to the non-profit organization of their choice.

The 2026 GFH winners

- Group Category: Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center – Augustine Tutors Jim and Linda Nanney
- Individual Category: Leslie Hulbert – Malorie’s Place

The Lunch Buddy Program is now recruiting mentors for the 2026–2027 school year! Just one lunch period a week can make a lifelong impact for a student in Catawba County.

✨ In 2025, the program served 87 students with the help of 82 mentors across all three school systems in Catawba County.

Become a mentor and help students build confidence, connection, and encouragement that lasts beyond the lunch table.
