The Backpack Program of The Corner Table is a 501(c) 3 organization that serves children in all three local school districts, in Catawba County and one school in Alexander County. Each week of the school year, over 1,200 children receive a bag full of food that provides a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack item for both Saturday and Sunday. The program is completely reliant on the generous hearts

of local volunteers and donors. The Backpack Program is a county-wide program working with volunteers and sponsors from each school to purchase food in bulk, at cost, directly from local food distributors in order to be the best steward of donations given. Our structure allows a donation of $175 to provide a child with a bag full of food every week throughout the school year! Without the partnership of all three local school systems, community partners, numerous churches, service organizations, and businesses, the program would not be able to operate in the format it does and serve so many children for such a low cost. Come fight local childhood hunger and help us remove hunger as a barrier to a good education! Help us speak HOPE to the children and families of Catawba County.

Our Story

The Backpack Program serves children in thirty four local schools who face hunger on the weekends in Catawba County. Each week of the school year over 1,200 children receive a bag full of food. The Backpack Program is in existence because of the community's constant support in the form of volunteers and donors giving their time, talent, and treasures. The program is led by volunteers and is completely reliant on the generous hearts of local donors.

The Backpack Program is a county-wide program that works with groups of volunteers and sponsors from each school. Food is purchased in bulk, at cost, in order to be the best steward of donations given. Once bulk purchases are made they are distributed to each school based on how many students receive a backpack full of food each week throughout the school year. Doing it this way only costs $130 for a child to receive food every Friday throughout the school year! Faithful volunteers come and pack bags of food each week at our warehouse facility located at 1925 Tate Blvd SE, Hickory, NC.
