The Hicksville Fire Department is pleased to announce its plans for the 2026 Memorial Day Parade. The parade commences at 9 AM on Monday, May 25, 2026, led by Grand Marshal Ex-Chief Gerard O’Brien of Protection Hook and Ladder Company One and a US Navy veteran. He will be followed by Honorary Grand Marshals Frank Guarasci, United States Army, Vietnam War veteran, and Honorary Grand Marshal Joe Dubon, United States Marines, Vietnam War veteran. The parade route will commence at East Barclay Street and Broadway (Route 107) and proceed south to Old Country Road. The procession will turn right (heading west) onto Old Country Road and then turn left and proceed south on Jerusalem Avenue. The parade will proceed past the reviewing stand and end at the Hicksville Middle School at Jerusalem Avenue and 4th Street. The parade will feature military units, fire apparatus, local civic and religious groups and organizations, antique vehicles, local school bands, and sports organizations. A Memorial Day ceremony will follow the parade at the Hicksville Middle School Memorial Garden (at approximately 10:30 AM), organized by the Joseph Barry Knights of Columbus Chapter #2520. The keynote speaker is the Honorable Rose Walker, Nassau County Legislator. The ceremony will be held in the school auditorium in case of inclement weather. All are welcome to attend.

Mike Krummenacker was a 50+ year member of Protection Hook & Ladder Co. 1

His advocacy in the Volunteer fire service was remarkable. His dedication and commitment will be greatly missed.

FASNY Director Michael Krummenacker, a lifelong Hicksville resident and devoted volunteer firefighter, passed away after more than five decades of service.

He served with the Hicksville Fire Department for more than 50 years, including 10 as Commissioner, and held leadership roles with FASNY and the Nassau County Firefighters Association.

Michael’s dedication to the fire service, his community, and his faith will be deeply missed.

The Officers and Members of Volunteer Hose Company No. 4 regret to announce the passing of Ex-Chief William "Spike" Thunell.

Ex-Chief Spike joined Volunteer Hose Company 4 in 1971. He became Lieutenant in 1976 and then Company's 57th Captain in 1980-1981. He then served the Department as an Assistant Chief from 1994-1999 and its 61st Chief of Department in 2000 and 2001. Spike also served a term as Fire Commissioner and was Chairman for the year 2011. Spike was a member of the Department's hockey team, hazmat team, training committee, Labor Day Parade and Drill Chairman 1977, and a past member of the rescue squad where he was one of the Department's first Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians.

He will be greatly missed.

Just after midnight on October 9th the Hicksville Fire Department responded to a basement fire in a commercial building on the corner of East Marie Street and Broadway. Multiple mutual aid units assisted as it went to 4 alarms. 934 and its crew operated on the scene for hours.
