Fish Sculpure Dedication on September 5!!
Immediately following the Clean Boats Clean Waters demonstration at Phoenix park at 12:15 p.m., there will be a dedication ceremony for Lyon Township's Roscommon County Freshwater Trail fish sculpture that is now installed for public viewing at Phoenix Park.

There will be two Clean Boats Clean Waters public demonstrations given by Lyon Township Parks and Recreation Committee members on September 5.
The first will be at Sam-O-Set Park and Beach at 11:00 a.m.
The second will be at Phoenix Park at 12:15 p.m.
The presentation will focus on keeping small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards clean when they are put in or taken out of Michigan waterways. The educational materials provided were supplied by a grant awarded to the Township by Mchigan State University Extension Services. Many thanks to them and to the Parks and Recreation Committee for their help in keeping our waters safe from invasive species and pollution.

Residents of Roscommon County who were affected by April's flooding can apply for FEMA assistance at a temporary Michigan Community Disaster Recovery Center location at St. John Lutheran Church, 2888 W. Houghton Lake Drive, Houghton Lake, now through Monday, August 24.
Recovery specialists will be available to help residents apply for FEMA assistance, check application status, and connect with recovery resources.

The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is August 31.

13th Annual Cancer Sucks Benefit Tournament
September 19-20, 2026

Help Us Make a Difference in Our Community
We are excited to host our 13th Annual Cancer Sucks Benefit Tournament, featuring both a softball tournament and a disc golf tournament. This event raises money to anonymously support a local community member battling cancer who is experiencing financial hardship.

Honoring Julie Ohmer
Thirteen years ago, we started this softball tournament to help a loved one battling pancreatic cancer. Julie Ohmer lost her fight in March 2015.
In Julie's memory, we have continued this tournament every year, raising funds to help another local community member facing the financial challenges that come with this terrible disease.

From 6 Teams to a State-Wide Event!
What started with just 6 softball teams has grown to more than 20 teams from all over Michigan! In 2021, we added a disc golf tournament, which now brings together 40+ doubles and singles teams.
Our weekend has grown into much more than a tournament, with:
Softball
Disc Golf
Live Music
Food Trucks
Raffles
Auctions
The event also brings visitors into our community. Players and families stay at local hotels and campgrounds, eat at local restaurants, and shop at local businesses.

How Can You Help?
We are seeking local businesses and community members willing to donate to this important cause.
