This Wednesday, it was our deepest pleasure running with our High Point neighbors at the Fleet Feet "The Big Run" 2026, in benefit of Open Door Ministries. The runners and businesses in the Heron village blessed us with generous advocacy and donations, which goes to support our community directly.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for all the runners who came to support us on this beautiful "Global Running Day", Fleet Feet High Point who kindly invited us to share our mission, as well as the sponsors for this year's run!

WHATABURGER! Thursday was National Hamburger Day, we received a generous donation of 100 build-it-yourself hamburger from the High Point Whataburger. These kits were filled with their care for our fellow neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. Thank you, Whataburger!

Today, we meet Shelter Director Andrew's little pet! She's a mix between a Chihuahua and Schnauzer and is absolutely full of love.

"She loves to play in the park and loves riding in the car. She is great with children, and she loves to be rubbed on her temples and back. When you see Kenleigh, give her a bacon treat and she'll stand on her two back legs."

Be sure that some of us are eager to sneak some treats to her.

Meet Andrew, our shelter director. When he's not in his office, he's out helping out guests or he's helping around the building for events.

Andrew has been a part of the ODM family since 2019. Born in Inglewood, California to two Haitian American parents and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Since his first job out of college was as a foster case worker, he has had a calling to help families in need. Andrew was raised in the church and was taught that we can help everyone if we put our mind to it. Andrew feels there are so many people that are in need of assistance, and he would not be doing this World any justice if he just left it the way it is. He loves the feeling of helping individuals and families in need, especially when they return years later to show what they have accomplished. Everyone has a purpose, and this is his!

Last week, 124 toiletries goodie bags were dropped off to ODM by "I am enough", a nonprofit organization focusing on empowering young women and girls (not pictured). These hand-packed, carefully selected hygiene kits carry their compassion for neighbors who are affected by homelessness and food insecurity! Thank you, members of "I am enough"!

We are observing Memorial Day tomorrow! Here are our hours:

Our Men's Shelter and Father's Table soup kitchen will be OPEN for normal hours.
Our Emergency Assistance, admin office, and food pantry will be CLOSED.

No one should go hungry or lack shelter during these times. Please reach out or come out for a warm meal, no questions asked. Our hours return to normal on Tuesday.

Time to meet three pups! And they're all part of Marketing & Communication Specialist Casandra's family.

"We brought Calla home from Mexico and she has made it her mission to hate everyone, excluding my mom, but momentarily forgets that mission for the sake of food even though she regularly gets treats. Mishka is an absolute lovebug who sunbathes in all sorts of weather and is scared of her farts. Arlo is the redneck poodle. He's a little stupid but loves his ball and we love him. And they're 'bilingual' so chances are, they won't listen to you in two languages."

Fun fact: they're all almost two years apart from each other (give or take a few months over) without meaning to, just like Casandra and her little sister have about two years difference between them. Arlo turns 6 in October!
