It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected death of Detective David Rosser.

Detective Rosser, 42, died earlier this week from a medical emergency. Please keep his wife and family in your thoughts during this difficult time. The High Point Police Department wants to ensure his family receives the support and appropriate privacy they need as they grieve this loss.

Detective Rosser joined the High Point Police Department in 2008 after starting his law enforcement career in Durham. He was most recently assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit. Detective Rosser also served as a fi****ms instructor, crisis negotiator, a member of the Civil Emergency Unit and he played bagpipes as part of the department's Honor Guard.

For more than a decade, he played the bagpipes at law enforcement memorial services and funerals across the Triad and North Carolina. He was one of only a few police officers in this part of the country that played the bagpipes. In a 2024 interview about his time with HPPD's Honor Guard, Detective Rosser reflected on what it meant to him to be able to honor officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in this way. He said when he played, he thought not just about the officer that died, but also their family and friends. He said, "Knowing that doing this service helps them with the funeral process and with the grieving process... It's meaningful to me to be able to provide that."

Detective Rosser will be greatly missed by many. We are grateful for his service to our department and our community.

Information about services is not available at this time.

RIP Chandler.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our own, Deputy Kaleb Mitchell, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Transitioned while serving and protecting this morning, March 7th, 2026, in a motor vehicle accident. We ask for prayers from the community for his family, as well as The FCSO family. As more information becomes available, we will share it at such time.

Later today, we will have a memorial in front of the Sheriff's Office, located at 301 N. Church St. The community is welcome and encouraged to pay their respects.

"One of our detectives said it best - It used to be said that when you first got your phone, you were gaining access to the world. And now, when you give a kid an electronic device, the world is gaining access to them. And that's something we have to be very, very mindful of." - Chief Curtis Cheeks III

The High Point Police Department is proud to partner with the Greensboro Police Department and the FBI - Charlotte to form the Triad Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The dedicated task force will focus on investigating CyberTips and identifying and arresting people who are exploiting children online.

We want to do everything we can to protect the children in our communities. When it comes to online activity, parents play an important role too.
➡️ Be involved and supervise what your child is doing online
➡️ If you have concerns, talk to your child about them
➡️ Remind your child to never to talk to someone they do not know online and never share any personal information
➡️ Consider devices with strong parental controls and privacy settings, especially for younger children
